PostSubject: Faunacasts Parasaurolophus Tubicen.    Tue 10 Sep 2013 - 14:48

Ok, I am proud to present my first Fuanacasts model. Crafted by the hands of  Malcolm Mlodoch.

Fuanacasts is a series of models that were made in cooperation from the Dino Toy Forum. Malcolm runs the line, and creates each of his pieces by hand, and paints up and ships them to whoever wants one. This Parasaurolophus Tubicen is one of the first models he made, and coincidently the very first model I own from this line. It is now retired, and I got mine through Dans Dinosaurs (who at the time of this writing has only one left) I must say I am very with this figure and I will definitely get more, to share with you guys.

For those interested in the line, you can see some of them in this forum

Note some of them are in development.

Malcolm has also made some Modern animals too, you can see them here.

And now Time for the main attraction

Parasaourolophus Basic Facts.
This is one of the more common dinosaurs as it is easily recognized by the long tubular crest on its head. It was a Hadrosaur, so the crest was used to call off to others of its kind, especially around mating season. a Study in the 1990s has possibly unlocked what this dinosaur sounded like, after careful examination of the crest with a Cat Scan, and sound affects programming. Other theories regarding the crest in the past were proven false due to the lack of evidence. The name Parasaourolophus means "Near Crested lizard to Saurolophus" which in turn mean that its a close relative to an Asian dinosaur called Saurolophus and the name references it. There are three species to this Genus, and all of them differ from the shape of the crest. P.Walkeri had a crest that was long and unrounded, P.Cyrtocristatus had a short and rounded crest, and the largest species P.Tubicen(shown in these pictures) had the longest, and straightest crest of all three.

What a beautyful model !!!!!Applause

Tamaka, thankyou for telling about the purpose of the crest ! I didn`t know that Shocked
It is amazing how fast science is unlucking the mysteries of some old stones .
The books I can get at the local library are all very out-dated indeed , so it is fortunate that I can learn from you Very Happy

Painting is also interesting, I like it. It looks a bit inspired in colors of Oryx, isn't it? :)

Malcolm tends to either color them how he likes it, or personalize them for the clients. This one was made by him, and was shipped to Dans Dinosaurs, who then sells them to customers like me. I had no choice on colors , but that does not mean I don't like em.

I hope to get some more in the future.

like his Ceratoesaurus

Of course yours was made by Malcolm, I have no doubt about that.  Very Happy  I bought the five first models when he began the serie, I remember I decided to become a DTF member because I wanted to discuss about the Paracetharium creation, it was my first forum and I think I am admin here because I discovered Malcom's works a  few years ago, isn't it funny ? Laughing

I had no choice on color too Wink

This Ceratosaurus seems very nice, beautiful like a PAPO allosaurus but accurate like a scientific model Applause Applause Applause
