My palm collection

Palm trees and their relatives are my favorite trees, I have worked hard to learn how to make as many species as I can.  Here is a photo list of most the palms I have made, some are from the beginning and need work, I have improved on my palm fronds as well as learned better techniques to attach the fronds to the trunks.  I've included some photos of live ones if I have photos I took myself.  

There a few pictured here that I did not make myself, some I bought from Danny (berlinzoo954) before I started to make my own, but I have also made every species myself but used his as the photo.

My favorite palm is a bottle palm, this is an early one so I'm going to "repair" the fronds, making them with the new style.

Here is a series of palms that I really like, some because they are unique and interesting or others like the first one pictured because of the color, this is the lipstick or sealing wax palm, it is the two in the center with the red trunks.  One of these two I purchased, the other I made myself.

These are different windmill palms, the first one I did not make myself, the others are mine.  There are a couple different ones I do not have pictures of, for instance I sold my mangrove windmill palm so it is not here, it is very similar but has a green with whitish striped pattern on its fronds.

This is a watermelon or flame thrower palm, it's new fronds are bright orange to red.

Here is Selacca, I make several of these as well, the big difference between the species is the shape of the first two leaflets on each frond.  They are usually a lot thicker and have a different shape, in mine it is hard to see this feature but if you look at the 2nd photo it is a littler easier to see the flat tips instead of points like in all of the following leaflets.

Here is one of 2 species of Washingtonia, I make both but the only difference is the color of the fronds, one is green, the other a grey-blue.

These palms are just assorted small palms I've done, some are just generic palms, others represent a species or genus.

This is a foxtail palm.

Even though this isn't a true palm, most people call is a palm.  It is from the genus Pandanus (I make 5different species of these)

This is a coconut palm.

I forgot one of my favorite fan palm species, It is from the genus Capernicia, C. hospita.  It is only found in Cuba, I especially love the color and the shape of the fronds, the are shapes like a wave, almost like the numerical sign for approximately (~), here is the first one I ever made, it is hard to see the shape in the photo but each frond has the wave shape, this one is still on my display shelf.

At the South of Portugal, where I was born, palms are used massively as urban decorative trees. Though, I remember some in rural areas that surely were used in yards of large houses that doesn't exist anymore. Native trees they're not surely.
These trees are desapearing due to urban pressure but they marked my childhood, I enjoyed see how local fauna used these trees, mainly the way as little passerines used them to hidde from owls.
It is exciting that you can replicate these unusual looking trees with such precision and also that you have a huge knowledge about them and their diversity. Thanks!

I would love to have such a fantastic forest of palms in my house! I don't think I'd ever leave, I'd probably just sit and play in it all day.

Roger, there is one native palm in Portugal, the European fan palm, Chamaerops humilis. It looks a lot like the windmill palms I make, maybe in the future I will try to make one, I just have to shape the typical windmill palm fronds a little differently and I could make a really nice one, maybe my next project?!

I didn't know about that palm and it is very interesting. Those I am talking are different, if I have the chance of photograph a surviving one next time a go to my homeland I'll let you know.
Oh, and this project should be fantastic!
