Shown in this walkaround are the Series 1 orange and Series 2 white colourways of the bubble eye (suihogan) goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus) from the Aquarium Fish In Colour/Aquarium Golden Fish series made by Yujin and Takara Tomy A.R.T.S. Like all of the fish in the series, these were sculpted by a chap going by the moniker KOW.

Like all of the fish in the series (well, the ones I've seen), the models are extremely well made, lifelike and highly detailed, with meticulously sculpted scales, translucent fins and undereye sacs, and gradually intensifying metallic overtones to their multihued paintwork. The figures are 6cm long and comprise of a transparent support rod, a "stony" base (the dull and bluish paintwork of which is in my opinion the only weakness of both models), and the fish themselves. The support rods on both are bent and their orientation may be altered by rotating them on the base, slightly changing the angle the fish "swim" in.

The bubble eye goldfish is a further mutated form of the common goldfish (walkaround [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]), which itself is a mutated form of the common carp. For decorative purposes, the fish are bred to develop large undereye sacs, which are filled with fluid and easily punctured. These sacs impair the fish's ability to swim. Their eyes are also pointed upward, together with the sacs significantly restricting the fish's ability to see. The fluid sacs, besides restricting movement and vision, are also liable to be torn at and eaten by other fish, and developing bacterial infections when punctured. The bubble eye is a relatively small goldfish, usually reaching from 15 to 20 centimetres in length.

Firstly, the series 1 orange bubble eye:

And the series 2 white:

Thank you for commenting - I'm glad you liked the walkaround (and that you dislike the breeding depicted. I do, too).

I totally agree on both points Wink

My brother in law has an aquarium and one of his fishes is this one.
I feel so sad for the poor thing, bumping his head against everything.

But the model is really nice done, congrats ^^

I'll... fourth that? How does the fish even see where it's going? It's like natural blinders. Sad

Thank you all for commenting. "Natural" blinders, indeed.
