My new watusi from miniNature ( painted by me)

Hi guys,
Today I received the new watusi made by miniNature. The work is really nice. However, I was disappointed when I received them because the plastic looks more like frigolite and the figure is hollow inside. It's fragile ( Yet, I've ordered the strong and flexible plastic). However , it's the first time that I order a figure from a 3D printer and I didn't know how it was.    . However, the figure is very very good and looks great with the painting.

Congratulations! What a wonderful model, and great job painting it!

I understand you, I also like the solide and heavy figures, it gives a different feeling but this is the start of a new era in terms of animal sculpting. As all new technologies, it will turn in future in a cheap technic and we'll find solide figures made with printers 3D. You should focus in that beautiful sculpting and value the new experience of knowing someting different from the traditional figurines.

Sorry to hear you're disappointed in the kind of plastic  Yes, it's a material with a rough surface, but when I see your paintwork with this surface it looks like the model is furry. You've done a great paintwork! The more expensive Frosted (ultra) detail has a smooth surface with clear detail, but it's also not the same as the modern brands.
I know Phil will make his watusi sollid and he said he'll show some pictures of this proces. Maybe you can use his way to make your model heavy and sollid too.
It's already possible with 3D printing to make a sollid model, but I think the price of the model will be at least 5 times higher, so hollow models are necessary to make it payable. I hope you'll enjoy your new model

Thank you for this comment Stijn. I'm happy to have them and it's not a problem because I painted them. I think this model is really fantastic and the price of the sollid model is too expensive for me.
So, I'm not disappointed now.   

The figure itself is beautiful.
And since it's going to be a display animal, shouldn't that be the only thing that matters?
It's a figure you will look at and adore for its grace and artistic value, size and paintjob and uniqueness.

Who cares if it's hollow or filled with cement, beans, feathers or grass?

Stijn: You may want to offer this watusi in the polished white strong and flexible, I have ordered some polished models and the figure is smooth and not grainy.  The maximum bounding box is 15x15x15 cm.  It only cost a dollar or two more but the final model has a much nicer finish to it, smoother.

Thanks Andrew! Good to hear you've good experience with the polished WSF. I was always afraid the model will loose his detail when you do the polishing, but I've also read some good experience on the dinotoyblog forum, so I think it's good aswell for organic models. Maybe I like the grainy look better for furred animals, but the polished models will now be available on my shop for everyone who want it smoother.

WOW!  Really nicely done! You picked a great color pattern, very similar to my choice, I am thinking bigger white patches with lots of red "freckles" in the white.

Don't worry about posting first, it may be a while before I get to it I'm so far behind on other projects. I still haven't posted on my mountain zebra from Silvia or the topi from Joan, both of which I've had for months and don't need any work done to take the pictures.

We often become disapointed when we get something else than we expected, but I sence that you are already getting happy ?

I was also afraid about the polished version  . I bought in 2011 some shapeways in white strong and flexible, they were small models and I promised myself that the next I would buy would be "ultra detail" ones.
