PostSubject: Hong-kong copy of a Festival stag   Sun Jan 05, 2014 6:12 pm

I found this little stag in a bad in a second hand shop.
he looks really old and almost all his color is gone.
It gives him a certain charm though...

The only thing I know, is that one of his hind leg is saying HONG KONG.

Does anyone know the brand, year, etc about this fella??

It's a HK copy, or near copy, of one of the vintage range of Christmas cake decoration figures originally made by a UK company called 'Festival'.  rendeer santa

Edit to add: I have few Festival & similar brand Xmas cake figures:

After further thought about this stag I suddenly remembered this photo of a very similar, if not exactly identical stag which is over a century old, but is clearly the original figure from which all later versions have been copied or at least 'inspired'. As the caption says, made circa 1900 by Georg Heyde of Dresden, Germany.

From the book 'Old German Toy Soldiers' by Hans Henning Roer 1993
Most of the book is in German, English & French.

I agree with you, this is a copy

made in hong kong, but the figure is different to that
shown in the photo (festival - christmas)

I have these two:

These deers are quite common in zoo or wildlife sets. I would say that the cake decoration brands often copied other makers animals. For example are the deers on the the second stair in Dave pic are bad copies of Britains early red deer.
I have copies of Britains hawaii dancers/ukuleleplayer bought in a cakeshop in Boston US.

I've seen those copies of dancers on eBay, seller was in the US, but the price + postage to UK was too high, so I passed on them.

If you have spares and want to do a swap for something, please PM.
