Eagles Days Empty
PostSubject: Eagles Days   Eagles Days EmptyMon Jan 20, 2014 2:08 am

Hello.

Every year in januray, Bald Eagles flock to my home state of Iowa to nest. and as a celebration, the city of Keokuk hosts an event disighned to educate the people about birds of prey, and have living birds on display.

I just got back from them today, and I thought I share images of the birds.

The First one shown was this Vulture.

Second one was this Eagle. At first glance, you would think its a Golden one, buts it is in fact an African Tawny Eagle.

He was not to happy to be here unfortunately, because as he waited to be shown, he had his back turned towards the audience.

When he was broght up, he acted alright for a few photos

But then he tried to fly away, but he was on a leash.  Don't worry, the staff said that these birds were born and raised in captivity for shows like this. and the eagle was alright

The third one is my favorite one, The Barn Owl. By the way, he kept Screeching throughout the entire show

The Fourth one is the star attraction of the whole event. the Baled Eagle.

There was one more bird at the Event. it was a White necked Raven. But I only got one Photo, and it is not that good Sad

Such gorgeous birds !!!! drunken

A very good idea to show them to everyone, it may help people understand that they are not to be just shot at !

They would probably have been much happyer if they had been shown outdoors, but all in all it is amazing how calm they are after all. Very Happy

PS, Gosh! That lady with the Bald Eagle surely has a strong arm !  Shocked

I hope you had a lot of fun!
Aren't those birds of prey amazing?
I think it's hard for anyone to not have respect for those claws and beaks.
The feathers of the barn owl with those beautiful little specks.  drunken
Wow.

Well she said that the Eagle weighed only 8 pounds with all of its hollow bones.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos of these beautiful birds! I bet you had fun! I had a similar experience at a Vermont nature center. (That is actually where I took my avatar photo). The birds at VINS were injured or orphaned and are being rehabilitated, but a few become permanent residents if they are unsuitable for return to the wild. Maybe you'd like to see some photos? Hope you don't mind.

Great topic. The raven is really cool, though we can't see his head. The one eagle would have to MUCH bigger to be a golden eagle, but they are al really neat to look at.
