PostSubject: Looking for better proportion animal figures   Sat May 03, 2014 11:25 pm

Hi All,

I have started (continued an Old collection) collecting some of the major brands figures, It is a bit difficult for me to get the animals since I can't get then in my country - therefore I order them through the internet.

My collection is based on proportional scaling of which each animal should be in that aspect ratio of Schliech animals (of which I found them with a reasonable proportions).
I have got two figures that I have missed in my collection and they are TOO BIG to meet the right proportion - I truly need to find them in a smaller scale - if exist.

These are the two that I have:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
AND...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The Wildebeest is bigger then my lion and it looks like It out of all other animals proportions. Also the Hyena is bigger then my White Rhino.
I would be happy to get smaller sized Hyena and wildebeest that would be set up in the right scale with my other animals. I also got a HUGE platypus that I could not find any smaller one.

I'm also thinking on getting
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] - Is it Big??
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] - How is this bear compared with the one from Schliech? Which is better?
And this [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I have more that I am interest on bying - But I would be happy to know about the above first.
Can someone post pictures of them next to Schliech animals that I will understand the scaling.

It is hard for me since I get them on line and I can only see them in pictures (I have not find someone else that collect these in my country)
I would be happy if some one can recommand a good On Line Store that I can get all major brands from - You can email me a private message.

Thank you!
Arye

PostSubject: I do Like Hippos - Don't you?   Sat May 03, 2014 11:46 pm

Hi All,

I have got the latest Hippo from Sch. and I truly thinks that it is a great creation BUT it has something with the mouth that I can't put my finger on. It looks O.K. But IMHO I think there is a need to change the mouth opening to make it more realistic.
Nevertheless I like it and I already have it in my collection.

My question is:
I have seen that there is a new Hippo in town from PAPO.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And I would like to know how is it next to the Sch. Hippo.
Can some one please post a picture of both next to each other?
I would really appreciate - I buy my models upon your replies and comments. You guidance help me a lot in buying my models.

Thanks
Arye

The Yak and the bear are in a "good" scale, about the same scale like the Schleich ones. I think they are something for you. Very Happy
Maybe you also can find something interessing for you [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Thanks.
Is there a possibility that I can see both Polar bears next to each other?
And what about the last figure - is it OK?

I would be glad to get a new Hyena and Wildebeest to replace the ones I have.
I would be happy if you could help me with a good On Line shop that I can use.
Thank you!

PostSubject: African Elephant and Asian Elephant (Sch, Safari Ltd. and PAPO are there more?)   Sun May 04, 2014 9:19 am

Hi all,

I am so happy to get all your help and knowledge helping me getting more animals to my collection.
As I have mentioned before I rely only upon pictures and your replies for my questions since I have not found any other collector in my country yet - that I can see the models "live" :)

I would be happy if someone can help me with Elephants.
I have already got the one from sch. - African Elephant.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This one from PAPO - is it same scale?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I would be happy to see it next to the African one from Sch.
Also Asian:(I don't have any - Planning on getting one, Sch or PAPO?)
PAPO looks wonderful:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And so does Sch Asian one too.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And they also have a female:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
that's great!!! :)
This one is from Safari Ltd.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and also this one:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And Asian:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

IMHO the Safari does not look detailed and well done as the one from PAPO and Sch. Not sure about my call - since I rely ONLY on Pictures that I find on the web.

I want to get another Elephant - It looks like the one I have tops all others small ones and need to have a friend from the same level.
can some one help me with choosing my next Elephant (Asian also - One from each) - I do have already the African Elephant from Sch.

Thanks for your help.

I have no Schleich African elephants so I can't show you comparision pics. Nevertheless here is a pic of the Papo one and a comparison pic with a Safari Ltd elephant.

About the Asian elephants, I made a walkaround followed by an excellent discussion in the past. It is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Maybe it could help you ?

My thought about this: The Schleich have a lot of details, more than any others but the proportions are very wrong, toooooo big heads for the body and tooooo short legs.
If details matters go for the Schleich, if you prefer better proportioned models, go for the Papo or the Safari Ltd.

They are both at the same scale.

I believe someone have got the bear and some other ones too, if you need some comparison pics… maybe DutchBear?  Wink
I can recommend MPV [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Not the best prices but surely safe and you can get figures from many brands. Good luck sunny

Schleich and Safari have/had also some wilbeests, maybe they are something for you? At the moment I also don't have seen ja good smaller hyena figure. And the mufflon is big compared with the others.
Habe you tried spielzeug-guenstig orthe spielfigurenportal? Very Happy

Thanks,

Kikimalou - is this a good figure to buy (it is expensive though) - PAPO
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It is Big you say - Do you happen to have it? acn I see a comparison? ( is it a good sacling figure to work with all the others?) I have bought a white lion from PAPO and I regret it since it was huge!! and I have put it aside waiting to fill up with another white lion to come by.

I would be happy to get a new Hippo and I wonder if the new Safari Ltd. Hippo of 2014 is a good choice and scaled correctly with my Sch. Hippo as well.

Thanks,

PostSubject: Monkeys and Apes   Mon May 05, 2014 11:47 pm

Hi All,

I am looking to increase the number of monkeys that I have and I want to create a collection with scaled up figures with the Gorilla from Sch.
I am looking in to get this Urag Utan:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Is it OK in size or Big?

Also this one - Gibon
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Or maybe this one?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Can I see both next to each other please?

The Papo Gorila Looks Masive then the Sch one - Is there a way that I can see them both next to each other?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This female is scaled OK with Sch or Papo?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Or this Gorila is better then Papo's One?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And is it scaled correctly?

I have seen that there is a Spider monkey - It looks Big in my opinion - Is it scaled OK?
Is this female worth buying?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Is it a good figure and can it be the female of the Urang Utan above?

This Chimp looks a bit odd but it looks like this is the only chimp around that worth buying - am I correct?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This can be a good female (I don't really like the baby though) probably the picture is not good.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This looks Cool - Is the Mandrill Scaled correctly with the Gorilla from Sch? both are Sch figures though.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]\

Last but not least - This Sq. Monkey
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I know that I am asking lots of questions - I would really appreciate your answers and opinion on each figure above and trully be woderfull to see all of them scaled with each other to understand which to buy and which one not to buy.

Thanks for your time and help.

IMHO it's a poor figure, the body isn't too bad, but the face is sculpted to be cute so the little kids will want to buy it for a toy. The body appears to be sub-adult, but the head is like a cub.

I agree with 4U, it was a (failed) attempt IMHO at a cutesy female. She just looks odd to me. If you want a schleich lion I would go with the previous one.

Thanks,
That was my thoughts as well - that is why I post my question.
I already have the previous figure and it look much much better then the one in the picture.

I was hopping to get a different answer since I thought figures should get better with time, no?

PostSubject: My 1 st Wish list - that I want to buy and need your help in chosing figures   Tue May 06, 2014 10:56 pm

Hi all,
The following is my 1st list of figures that I am willing to get and I would be happy if you could assist me with choosing the right ones to my collection.
I want to have a collection that will have figures scaled the same as they are in the wild. I base my collection on Schliech figures and I would be happy to know if the following are scaled correctly and also if they are worth buying - Good overall figure, yes or no.

Here is the list (Hope it is not long) 1st 10:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
1. CollectA Black-Backed Jackal

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
2. AAA Female Wildebeest

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
3. CollectA Tasmanian Devil

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
4. CollectA King Cheetah

5. CollectA Fennec Fox

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
6. CollectA Baird's Tapir

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
7. CollectA Maned Wolf

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
8. Mojo Honey Badger Male

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
9. Mojo Female Honey Badger with Cub

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
10. Mojo Tamandua

I would appreciate if you could advise me on each and every one of the above first 10 runner up.
I want to buy them all and I don't want to have some that looks right in picture and figure out that they are not as good as they look and also I would be happy to have all my animals scaled up in the same proportion that way I will not end up with animals that I can't put in my collection since they are BIG - like the hyena and wildebeest I have sent post over and the white Lion that it is look way to big for a lion.

The Above are the 1st 10 that I would like to get and need you help on chosing the right one.
Thank You!!

And regarding PAPO - I have one White Lion that is HUGE and I don't think I can get more from this size :) If they were creating them a bit small in size that would be my answer.

With the exception of the Wildebeest and female honey badger, I have all the figurines you listed above. None of them, in my opinion, is BIG. All the CollectA are as good as the picture, if not better. The Tamandua is quite good, but the painting is too matte for my taste. The painting of the Male Honey Badger is not quite good, I think.
About wildebeest, perhaps you can consider CollectA Black Wildebeest.

Unfortunately I cannot assist on the scales.

But I thought it would maybe be a good idea to open a topic, which will focus on showing same specie in a photo - but different brand together, so that the scales get clear  Very Happy ?
Kind of a scale database, based on photos.

Maybe a topic like that already exist? I haven't seen it ever though  bounce

Thanks for helping.
Donny - Why do you think that I need to replace AAA Wildebeest with the one from CollectA?
What is wrong with it?

Carola that would help everyone a lot - me in particular, and also collectors like me - that don't have stores in thier country to see them "IN REAL" before buying them.

I put my trust on pictures on the internet and on yours and all other members advise in this fantastic forum.
Thank You!

Oh no. I referred to the Papo wildebeest that is quite big. I didn't suggest you to replace the AAA. In fact, you can have both of them. They are not the same species.

PostSubject: My 2 ndt Wish list - that I want to buy and need your help in chosing figures   Wed May 07, 2014 1:18 pm

Hi all,

I truly appreciate your help with my decision on getting New Animals figures to my collection.

The following is my 2nd list of figures that I am willing to get and I would be happy if you could assist me with choosing the right ones to my collection.
I want to have a collection that will have figures scaled the same as they are in the wild. I base my collection on Schliech figures and I would be happy to know if the following are scaled correctly and also if they are worth buying - Good overall figure, yes or no.

Here is the list (Hope it is not long) 2nd 10:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
1. Mojo Brazilian Tapir

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
2 .Mojo Proboscis Monkey

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
3. Mojo Mountain Lion - NSATO - Looks massively wide and outsize the Puma that I saw with "over bent legs" They look different as if they were two species of Pumas - I do want a puma and I didn't get the other when I had the chance because of iys head and legs that looks odd. Should I go with Mojo or the other one? or None?

4. Mojo American Black Bear

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
5 . Mojo Badger - NSATO

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
6. Mojo Polar Bear - Is it with the right size of Sch. Polar Bear?

Looking for a Koala I thought this one is good and with the right size and scale - am I right? - Are these good figures?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
7. Science and Nature Small Australian Koala - NSATO

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
8. Safari Ltd. Peccary Looks big! is it big or in the right proportions?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
9. Safari Ltd. Black Fox

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
10. Safari Ltd. Baby Gorilla - Not sure about this one - I wanted a baby gorilla and it was the only one I could find - It looks OK is it Good?

This is my second 10 in the list that I want to get.
Please help me with them - So I could buy them with not hesitation and scale would be ok.

Thank You!

I hope you'll forgive me for being critical, but having seen several of your similar posts, I'm really starting to wonder.....

OK, so I don't know anything about your personal circumstances, or how difficult it might be to buy stuff in Israel, but am assuming that as you're aged 23, you have a reasonable income (not like you're a 14 year old kid on limited 'pocket money'), and in this age of international eBay, and allowing for postage from anywhere in Europe to Israel not being too expensive, so why don't you just buy all of them?

Of course, your perception of collecting will probably be influenced by being a comparative beginner, but trust me on this, you'll probably soon have loads of figures, and will be collecting both for a diorama (all in scale), and collecting by brand (everything made by your preferred brands, whether you like them or not). As a comparative beginner, you are more likely than long time collectors to buy cheap mixed lots of figures, to build up your collection. Hey, I still buy them, sometimes buying a lot of 50+ figures even though I only really want a few (less than 10, sometimes only 2 or 3) of them.

If you haven't seen any of my posts/figures on the forum yet, they're nearly all in the vintage Britains & other UK made section - & I've still only posted a fraction of my collection. Not really boasting, because after well over 50 years of collecting, anyone would end up with rather a lot - as will happen to you as well (with eBay today, probably a lot quicker than I managed).

PS to add: My collection includes loads of figures I don't like, or are way out of scale with the others, but I don't worry about it. They usually didn't cost enough to worry about, and are still valid items in my collection on the basis of collecting by brand.

When I first found out about the STS forum, I spend hours and hours checking out the different "Show us Yours" threads, to see what animal I wanted for my collection.
It shows loads of pictures of certain species and at will give you a fairly good idea about size between different companies.

Have fun!  sunny

Hello Arye, I see you are opening several topics with questions. All your doubts are normal once you only can find these figures online. Though, it turns our forum somewhat messy. Very Happy I'll merge your topics as soon as I can and you can use a single topic to all these questions. Idea
We are a very friendly community and we enjoy to help though, if you search our walk arounds and show us yours threads, you'll find a lot of answers to all your questions.
First, if you want your figures in scale, it is not possible based on Schleich and major brands once they are far from being realistically sized when compared. If you want them realistically sized you have to choose vintage brands, mainly those in 1:32 scale with a focus on Britains.
But, if you find the Schleich approach in terms of sizes, you'll find that the most part of other brand figures are usually compatible.
Papo mouflon is somewhat large for Schleich standards but Schleich never released it. Polar bear and yak are perfectly sized with Schleich and the polar bear is better than any Schleich version in my opinion. Yak is just as nice as Schleich one though this one is wild while Schleich version is a domesticated one. Very Happy

Sorry Roger didn't mean to.
I understand DaveScriv - just so you'll know it is not simple to get figures that I am not sure about 100% - I have already put aside the Wildebeest and Hyena mentioned - I am not collecting by Brands.
I collect animals species that I would be happy to see next to each other with a reasonable proportion
Like in this picture:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

All animals looks with the right scale BUT the HUGE Sea Horse. That picture can help me with understanding the right size of each figure (if it was not touched up to scale figures in order to get the picture mentioned). And I would be happy if I could see the Animals up close before buying them - We don't have them in my country - And the only thing I can do is ask for help.

That way I'll be buying the right figures and also be happy with my collection. That is why I am looking to get the right figure and ask the expert for help.

I have also found out that there are more collectors that interested in the same as I do. It can help more then me if there was a section that will show comparison of figures in size.

Is there a way to add a sub folder under "Show us Yours" to include Show Proportions - by Animals Species?

Thanks and Sorry for messing up the Forum.

I agree with everyone, the new Schleich lioness isn't worth buying. Any of Papo's big cats and Mojo's lions definetly are from the pictures I've seen on the forum. If you can, try to find the old Schleich lioness:

She shouldn't be too hard to find, as she was just retired this year.

You don't need to feel sorry, you can keep using this topic to ask for size comparisons. Very Happy
The most part of the figures you are searching are reasonably sized with Schleich except these ones:
Papo orangutan
Safari spider monkey
Mojo proboscis monkey
Mojo koala
Maybe you'll find Mojo black bear and puma also somewhat large.
About wildebeest you can be sure that CollectA white-tailed gnu is correctly sized and an excelent figure and if you want, I can find the Schleich blue wildebeest for you locally, just contact me, it is smaller than Papo's version and it is a good figure.
It is not easy to take comparison pictures of all of them that is why I suggested you to check if you can find them on other topics. :)
I understand your points and I hope you have fun collecting and sharing with our community. cheers
We don't have size comparison topics for wild figures because they vary a lot in size and they're many! Shocked We have several topics comparing horses once they follow a certain scale. Though, we have all months a new suggestion for a show us yours topic and you can suggest it. Very Happy
