I'm going on a trip to the farallon Islands next month

As the title says, I'm going on a trip to the farallon Islands in July.  The farallons are one of the most protected islands in the U.S.A., and you can not set foot on the land unless you have very specific research and lots and lots of very hard to get paperwork.  

They are 27 miles off the coast almost straight east of San Francisco and what makes them so special is they have the largest population of breeding seabirds in the Pacific Ocean!  Not only are birds seen but there are 4 species of whales, dolphins, porpoise, seals, sealions, including the endangered Steller's and endangered California fur seals.

I decided to make a refrigerator magnet to commemorate the trip, which is sponsored by the Sacramento Audubon society.  I picked tufted puffins and rhinoceros auklets and sculpted a small scene.  Here it is, hope you enjoy...

Great little scene Phil, the puffins look great and so does the rock work. Hopefully your trip will provide inspiration and reference for your future dioramas.

I will post lots of photos as long as the weather and seas are good, but I think I gave the wrong impression, I don't have permission to go onshore.  We can approach the island, but they will not give anyone but the very few who have a specific reason permits to set foot on the island, so while the trip will be an incredible opportunity to view the birds and marine mammals anyone with a boat, compass and a map can do what we are doing!  This trip is sponsored by the Audubon Society and includes 30 people, mostly biologists and photographers but also 5 guests, one of which will be me.  I was invited because of my knowledge on both the shore birds of California and the toothed dolphins, even though my studies were not in marine mammals what I went to school and studied was the relationships between closely related groups of animals like dolphins and porpoises or sealions and fur seals.

I'm sure you will have a great day and I can't wait to see your pics. Even if you can't go on the isle, it will be something.

15 years ago I went by boat near a Big colony of Northen gannet in Bretagne and I never forget the thousands of bird shouts and the basking sharks around us   

I imagine your journey will be much more fabulous than that
