PostSubject: My sculptures   My sculptures EmptyMon Dec 13, 2010 9:11 pm

I like to customize Schleich figures but I love to model my own horses too. Here you can see them! I hope you like them as much as I do!

My FIRST sculpture. A bit ugly, I know xD And a frightening eye!

Second trying. I think I improved a bit... I don´t know if you can see it, I love the golden eye!

An Arabian stallion. I´m quite proud of it. I based on a drawing I drew myself, no photo-reference.

This was a commission.

And the newest, another commission, this time of a real-life horse who lived in 1940-50. I used an old photo as reference.

If you can´t see the photos properly visit my website :)

WOW! How you have become an artist ! How long ago did you make the first one ?
They are just great !

About the golden eyes, - it is usually connected to the cream-gene in the breeds I know, - Palomino, buckskin, smoky or black with hidden cream. According to that theory a flaxen chestnut can`t have golden eyes, - but then it is not a horse but a unicorn cheers

Ohh, I love them all. I love you I love you I love you

The first one was made on July 2009.

About the golden eye... I know Wink It´just I didn´t know when I painted it! xD In fact, that unicorn is something like a linebacked mealy chocolate flaxen. Anyway, golden eyes are not excusive of cream gene, so it could be possible. Since I´ve learnt a bit about equine coat genetics I see it a bit unrealistic :) Thank you so much for your commen;)

If you mean which kind of clay I use, it´s Sculpey :) (Sorry if I didn´t understand the question, my English is not very good)

Yes, thanks, the clay looks really good. The clay I use I'm getting a bit annoyed with as I'm restricted to what I can do with it, hard to work with and not that strong when dry. It's hard to do thin legs and other delicate things like long horns.

Oh, I forgot the scale! You´re right.

They are same size as Schleich horses are. In that way they look great with my collection (the ones I keep for me: the grey with blue eyes, the unicorn and the Arabian) :)

Wow, they look great Very Happy you are realy tallented cheers

I see you use the same clay as I do. At first I used cernit-clay, but that was realy lousy when you want o do smal detailes and animals standing up. Then I found skulpy, wich I think works realy good.

The only thing I kinda dont like is that some of the clay is realy hard while other are much softer and easier to work with

Really? I always have the same softness with it. Maybe it could be a bit harder is it has been opened for a long time, but it gets as soft as if it was new with a bit knocking work :)

No, thats not it scratch

Some of them, when I open them, are soft and perfect to work with from the beginning, while other are hard, and still doesnt get as soft as I want after a lot of rubbing.

Cant realy explain it, but al of them are tightly wrapped so it cant be from beeing in the air for to long.

I realy have no idea why this is, but I usually use the harder ones for big areas, like the main body of an animal, while I use the softer for smaler detailes, like the head, tail etc, so it works out pretty well Very Happy

I don´t know how do you keep your clay when you are not using it. I use a plastic bag, and I close it very well, to avoid the clay getting dry. Maybe you should try this :)
