Mosasaur maquette Empty
PostSubject: Mosasaur maquette   Mosasaur maquette EmptyWed Dec 02, 2015 10:22 pm

I want to do some paintings of extinct wildlife from my home state of Tennessee. To that end I have made a maquette of the mosasaur Prognathodon for use as a model. This will make it much easier to get light and shadows right. It's somewhat crude, not as detailed or refined as a finished sculpture, but it should do what I need it to.

The maquette is made from Kato Polyclay. This is my first time using it, but so far I think I like it a little better than Super Sculpey!

Thank you Laura and Suzanne!

In the painting, the mosasaur will be pursuing a school of ammonites (extinct shelled cephalopods); he's twisting to follow their evasive maneuvers. There is some evidence that this genus of mosasaurs specialized on hard-shelled prey such as ammonites and turtles.
