PostSubject: MOJO FUNN 2013 Hyaenodon Gigas   MOJO FUNN 2013 Hyaenodon Gigas EmptySun Dec 02, 2012 9:05 pm

The time is here

MOJO's 4th Prehistoric mammal for 2013

and as olway's we finish with a master piece

The Hyaenodon Gigas

Size 1:30 scale Height to shoulders 5cm, length nose to rear (excluding tail) 11cm

and also some words from the man himself,,James

We have already resolved the mouth angle problem and the mass production model will have correct upper jaw alignment.
We will drop the upper jaw by 10 degrees to be in correct alignment with main skull, this will also reduce the jaw width to the correct proportions.
As time is short and we must finish the catalogue within the week we have had to go with this image even though the mouth area is incorrect

thanks MOJO for these amazing prehistoric Mammals,
and I can't wait to see the next ones for 2014

Martien

Wow! Does that animal have any relation to the Thylacine? Mojo should do a Thylacine... That would be just as awesome a figure as this one is. Great job Mojo, and I am sure the fixed jaw makes it looks even better.

It's no Family from the Thylacine

read this

The modern thylacine first appeared about 4 million years ago. Species of the family Thylacinidae date back to the beginning of the Miocene; since the early 1990s, at least seven fossil species have been uncovered at Riversleigh, part of Lawn Hill National Park in northwest Queensland.Dickson's Thylacine (Nimbacinus dicksoni) is the oldest of the seven discovered fossil species, dating back to 23 million years ago. This thylacinid was much smaller than its more recent relatives. The largest species, the powerful thylacine (Thylacinus potens) which grew to the size of a wolf, was the only species to survive into the late Miocene. In late Pleistocene and early Holocene times, the modern thylacine was widespread (although never numerous) throughout Australia and New Guinea.
An example of convergent evolution, the thylacine showed many similarities to the members of the dog family, Canidae, of the Northern Hemisphere: sharp teeth, powerful jaws, raised heels and the same general body form. Since the thylacine filled the same ecological niche in Australia as the dog family did elsewhere it developed many of the same features. Despite this, it is unrelated to any of the Northern Hemisphere predators

so it's a species on his own

Martien

Again what I enjoy best in these Mojo prehistoric figures is that the brand made its own interpretation of the animals studying them and giving us a pure paleoartistic work. cheers From my knowledge, those are not copies from Walking with Beasts or similar series like Papo did with JP or other brands with other prehistoric lines. It is much easier to copy a work from a TV series than develope it researching through several sources. Very Happy
If these replicas are well accepted among experts we are surely facing a kind of anthology work. Very Happy
The only thing I can say is that it looks a living creature, very natural looking with elegant walking pose, not a bizarre recriation as we see sometimes. Very Happy
Very appreciated work. cheers

Paige, of course there are some similarities, although these species are very far related, both developed a carnivorous efficience what gave them a somewhat similar shape. If a thylacine and a wolf, also very far related, are usually considered examples of convergent evolution I can't see anything wrong comparing a thylacine with a hyaenodon. Very Happy
