My snow leopard sculpt

My unpainted snow leopard sculpt. Sorry for the pics, I used a cellphone and I'm not a good photographer either. Also I suck at painting, so I wanted to show it before I ruin it.

Such a beautiful snow leopard! 
Yesterday I was in the zoo and observed snow leopard, wonderful cats and your is very nice!

GREAT model!   I especially like the pose and facial expression. My only suggestion would be to add texture, but it is only a personal preference and I encourage you to do as you want. Keep up the good work.

I hear you, but the lack of texture in the fur was actually requested by the person who made me the comission, because she liked the look of the smooth surface. Thanks everybody for the kind words.

Its still really good. I can think of lots of other great figures as well which are smooth and untextured.

My painted snow leopard sculpt, I ruined it, as I promised. This was the first time I painted any of my models for obvious reasons: I don't know how to do it, never got the chance to learn. Getting the colors right is much tougher than I thought, I feel even more admiration for Harriet now.
To be honest, I don't like the results, it looks cartoony, any advice or recommendation on a good book or tutorial on how to paint sculptures would be much appreciated.

It is not cartoonish at all, it is very nice. this kind of painting reminds me the Colorata style and it is a gorgeous style.

You want to improve so you are not satisfied. i know the feeling. You will learn and will improve. Enjoy

I think you are being too hard on yourself for the first time you've painted a model. You did a good job with the face, eyes and markings. After undercoating I apply a base colour followed by a wash (a very thin watery paint which rinses over the raised areas with the pigment settling in the low points and crevices). This gives the model greater depth and realism. There's a lot more that can follow but I find this is a good start. I use the warhammer paint range and they have a great book on how to paint but it is expensive!
