Looking for info: wolf Empty
PostSubject: Looking for info: wolf   Looking for info: wolf EmptySun Jun 18, 2017 12:39 pm

Hi! I used to collect figures, mostly dogs and horses, when I was a kid. Recently I had a baby. I was looking for some chew proof realistic toys for him and dug out my old collection. I had some deer and a wolf. I liked the brand as it seemed sturdy with no loose parts and though I would get him some more. Wow. I had no idea they were so popular and expencive!

Anyway I started looking into it. I have some deer and two wolves. I found info on the deer but not the wolf. Can someone tell me anything about it? Mostly I guess I was wondering if I shouldn't let my kid play with them untill he is older. He koves the buck. I imagine a colector freaking out lol.

Hello Kathryn and welcome on forum. I don't know exactly which kind of information you want about your wolf but you can find info about it in this page! :)
Finding the best toys for your baby is a good idea once they represent an important role in their education. Though, these toys are not exactly recomended for babies under 3 years of age, a softer piece could be more adjusted.

I guess I am most worried about paint. I think as far as small parts, nothing is breaking off and they are a good size for him to grasp. I don't like the fake looking brightly colored toy animals and I would rather give him quality toys he can grow into.

That has a date of manufacture so thank you! I think I might be able to find out about paint laws then.

Thank you!

I'm not very good on forum interface. There are some cool animal collections on here! I hope my little guy likes these things! I'm getting a few others off of amazon ( the giraff and mustang) as they are on sale. If he likes them when he is older than we can really start a good collection for him.

Schleich and other brands are 3+ years.
And I think all Paint is child proof, as they are controlled.
I think you can find more info about the paints they use, on their websites :)

Safari ltd and also Papo have made bigger animals.
Safari ltd Wildlife Wonders are a good big size :)

Welcome here Very Happy Hope your son will love them :)

Hello! As I see that you're in the US, I've bought figures reasonably online from H&H Winner's Circle (they're on Amazon and eBay) and I was thinking of placing an order with Happy Hen Toys. Lots of big chain stores carry Schleich and some do Safari (which is a US based company) and Mojo. The benefit there is that they sometimes clear stuff out cheap- one Walmart by me has been terrific for that! If it's not a sentimental they were yours reason for keeping them, it might be worthwhile to try and sell yours and replace them with cheaper newer versions. (I have no idea of the paint laws in the 90s, but new figures from named brands should be safe) Wolves especially seem to have lots of fans.

While you're still in charge of species selection, I notice size for size dinosaurs seem to be more expensive than other animals whatever the brand.

If you don't object to bleaching them first, thrift stores and flea markets can be good places to build a collection for him reasonably.

Edit to say my teenage daughter's childhood collection was in large part secondhand finds, we never had a problem with them even when she was still in the chewing phase. The hardness/durability of the plastic does vary from brand to brand and even year to year within a brand. Harder stuff will stand up to determined chewing better when he's older, but might also develop harder edges or projections from the chewing that could poke. Some of the softer plastic might not be too hard to chew off small pieces from tails/horns/ears etc. which might be choke hazards.

I thought about that but I played with them when I was a kid. I kept them all these years. I think I would be sad to see them go. I have 6 deer though. If I am recalling correctly they were for a school project. I have a ton of dogs of unknown brand that I absolutely won't part with. They are much too small for him. Same as my micro mini grand champions. For all I know he wont play with them! I just dont want to waste money on junky baby / toddler toys that only have a 6 month play value. We are big fans of imaginary open ended play and no lights/sounds. Animals mean a lot to our family. When I saw the Schleich goats I had to use all my will power not to buy them all lol!

Then I worry I'm buying my kid my childhood fantasy. He may like dolls or something way off the chart! The dinosaurs are awesome and the dragons..... he has a dragon mobile that he loves.

Thrift stores here are awful. I only am able to find books for him there.

The safari ltd toys are huge! Haha we have a super tiny house.

I understand wanting to keep them, I would myself if they were mine. And sure his interests may change when he gets older and around other kids who influence him, but now his world is yours so enjoy the ride with him! You never know what may stick with him, even if he sets it aside for a few years. And there's lots of room for different tastes within the animal world- from dinos and predators for he-man boys to Barbie-braided horses and fairies for girly-girls. And as you said, the toys will grow with him in what he gets out of them.

Safari has a big range of sizes, though most are about the same size as Schleich models. When he gets older, their Toob size range could be good for party cake toppers or piñata stuffers.

He can always get dragons...

This dragon is secondhand, either Schleich or Papo (paint on belly is globbed). There are lots between the brands, some with little bits/projections that my not be good for a baby though, and some crazy expensive. I've known of quite a few preteen boys who still loved these, as did their dads though dad may deny it. Michaels and JoAnns have a selection of the Safari ones for an okay price, or look online.

You could put a want ad up here too if there's something particular you know you want. Collectors usually want their pieces as perfect as possible, and may list pre-loved ones for sale inexpensively too. A few paint rubs won't matter to a toddler.

Woah the dragon is awesome! When he is older can can express better what he likes I will be more prepared for what to get him.

I did read to sorround your kid with things you love. Like I said we love animals and think that imaginary play is incredibly important. Plu... I love these figures too. I would much wrather pick these up off the floor than fisher price "animals".
