It is time now for another marvelous specie: the marble cat.

This small feline is really peculiar as he is itself a miniature of a panther (he was once considered to belong to the pantherine lineage of "big cats"). He has a long  furred  tail (sometimes longer than the rest of the body) used as a counterbalance for his highly marked  arboreal lifestyle.

I hope you like…

This was my first attempt  for the Marble cat replica.

After a while I realized that his body was shorter than it should be. So I had two alternatives: Make a new figurine or lengthen the body.

I choose the second one and so I can explain you how I use to change the shape or the posture of an already sculpted figurine:

First step: Cutting

Second step: Reassembling

Third step: Refilling with epoxy clay

Four step:   Reshaping again (more fur, new tail…) and final result:

Taht's interesting, I never understood why most part of sculptors make felines with short bodies, they are quite "elastic" but we can see it even in major brands. It is great that you noticed it and fixed it. Also thanks for explanation, it can be useful to other sculptors.
I am sure this replica of a beautiful creature will end very nice as others you did. Very Happy

You are right! I dont know why but as an sculptor -even being modest- I notice that felines has something bewitching that force us (against our will) to make then with bigger heads, bigger eyes (even more than those which correspond to those big heads), shorter bodies and larger necks and legs than they really have... Sad Sad Sad

Exactly, even when we are just kids, we start designing humans with huge heads and eyes. Maybe there are several explanations to that. Maybe because we are formated to recognize others by facial features, maybe because that is the most detailed area of many animals or any other reasons I can't explain.
Good luck with your small cat and big work. Very Happy

It look`s very good so far Mgarat :)
Small models are allways more hard for paint job.. but I believe, that you will make it great Wink
This cat has so nice colors...beautiful spots... it is very rich for painting :)
