Additional Landscape scultures making their way to Africa Empty
PostSubject: Additional Landscape scultures making their way to Africa   Additional Landscape scultures making their way to Africa EmptyFri Apr 16, 2010 10:56 pm

I'm happy to share a few pics of additional landscape items, that were originally sculted for my scale model in 1:24, but have now found their way to Africa for the most part, and will be traveling on Monday.
For those of you who do not know where Africa is ask our friend Phil for directions What a Face he is currently runing an enviromental program there helping the locals replant their savanna.

Thank you both, i really like this pieces, and think they will make an excellent addition to Phil's African diorama, it will be great once the savanna is finished, all the trees, plants, animals everything coming together into a very detailed and perfected diorama.

There is also a Baobab tree that Phil ordered, it should be ready late next week, and i'm really looking foward to see the new landscape pieces in the diorama.

I am so happy with the look of these pieces, I am especially looking forward to the shea tree. I have the spot for it already picked out, and I can't wait until the baobab tree is finished. Danny and I talked about it before it was started, so I had some input into it's final look, but Danny has been doing custom plants for a long time, so I take his advice when it comes to these trees. The one thing I did was to decide on how much and the shade of the foliage. I wanted a dry season look, but with full foliage, not the end of the dry season. The next tree we will work on is for India, I want a tree that is still alive, but has fallen and now is leaning over the river. I made a mini Indian diorama (see the post on mini dio) and if you look at the pictures, there is a cave on the right, where a croc can live, and a smaller hole in the wall near the center that the base of the tree will fit into. The material I use l use to sculpt the rock face is carvable, so when the tree arrives I can just cut the hole it to fit and add glue.

I think you will be bery happy when you receive the scultures Phil, they both look a lot better than in the pictures, and i can imagine you will spend a lot of time placing them around in the diorama.
I especially like the way the palm tree scene looks next to the tree, it is a very good match in my opinon, and if you ever do create the African Village, they will look great there as well.

Very serious contribution to the Phil's savannah rescue program Very Happy .

Those trees are really awesome, could you share some closer pics of the foliage ?

By the way, if the ground horn bill is feeling alone without his wood friends, I can manage him a good place in France :) . It is really a very fine bird.

Kiki, they are available regularly on ebay here, the next one I see I will send you the link, the guy I get most of mine from is in Japan, but he is actually Australian, living there. He is very reasonable price wise, I usually pay between $5-20 for a piece depending on how rare the individual piece is. I'll watch for you.

Phil i think you are mistaken, this is not the kaiyodo Indian Hornbill, i'm sure Kiki has that one, he is as fluent as me with the Japanese collections, the Hornbill he is refering to is the African Hornbill in the pictures with the diorama, that is a custom piece and a very rare make as he pointed out, not sure that any company has produced it.

Kiki i had a couple of extra individuals of this bird, one in the collection of our dear friend Robert the Elephantman, and another went to a collector of birds in the zoochatforum, if i get a couple of them made, it should not be a problem, i will cotact you about it, email me if you interested so i can get your email again, since i think i lost it, and send you price, etc.

Well here are some close up pictures of the Hornbills, they are extremely life like as you can see, they are both custom and can be done again, so if you are interested KiKi drop me a line at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or anybody else for that matter.

The species is Southern Ground Hornbill, the last picture shows the exceptional realism of this figures.

Danny, oh ya, my bad, and I knew that the figure was too big for me, but it is a bird that I really want in my diorama as well. Your bird collection rivals anything I have seen, you have chosen such great species as well as the quality of the models is better then anything available to the regular collector.
