What kind of paints, the major companies use ?

There is something, which doesn`t gives me peace and
I have a great desire to know :)
Do you guys know, what kind of paints, the companies use exactly for the models ?
I mean, when we repaint them, we use acrylics...but I`m almost shure, that the original colors are
made it, with other kind of paints..
They stick much stronger to the model, then the acrylics...
When I repaint a model, after it`s finished, I`m afraid to hold it too much in my hands...
but I realy like to do that with the models in my collection Maybe for some of you it is the same.. :)
To feel them in my hands...and still ``study`` them shape.. it is a nice feeling for me.
For example - the Papo snow leopard,
I like more my repainted version, but I`m afraid to hold it too much ...
so I`m still ``playing`` with the original model in my hands.. :)

Maybe some of you know, what exactly the original paints are... and is there a chance to find them somewere..?
I hope for example that maybe Anna can share if she knows about MOJO... ?
I`m shure, that some of you are more familiar than me, whit these kind of particulars of knowing more about the models :)
And mybe you can share with me .. :)

Wright a letter Maybe Papo (the brand you repaint most) will reply.
You can say you are a big fan and repaint their models and you are curious about their paint.
Maybe... maybe you get a reply

Perhaps, if some of us know somebody working in one of the facturies, can find out ?
I fear thay it may be a secret, - but, wow, it could be great to know

I`m shure, this is confidential information for every companie.. and they will not tell me if I`m asking them :)

I can't say for sure, but certainly early PVC manufacturers (Britians, Heimo, Schlicht...) didn't actually use 'paint' as in a separate material spread over another material in a thin layer. Instead they used a thinned PVC as a paint, but obviously it becomes part of the figure and is part of it.

I don't know exactly how it works, and the companies may well explain, but I imagine the two main variables are firstly; how much the material is thinned-down by, for instance some of the early Britains Deetail figures tend to rubbing as do the black shoes of early Heimo Disneys, but later figures are impossible to rub colour patches off. so the 'paint' can be seen to have welded to the under-surface.

The other factor is probably heat - Back in the day (1970's) you used to be able to get little kits for PVC repair, these contained several small vials of liquid PVC and a smoothing-iron which you heated on a cooker or larger hand-iron, you 'painted' the smooth paste onto the damaged furniture or car upholstery and then heated it to weld it to the tear in the fabric and give a smooth mend.

With modern fine-detailed work like the ranges from Schlicht, Papo and AAA etc... I would guess that very thinned liquid PVC is used and then they go (back?) in an oven to 'set' them? But the oven would need to not melt the whole figure...so like I say I don't know for sure how it works!

Andy Harfield of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] did locate some PVC paints and offer them for sale about ten years ago, but they were quite expensive and they sold slowly, so he didn't repeat the experiment, but they did stick well to old Deetail figures. he may be able to point people to the source?
