PostSubject: Emma's painting project   Emma's painting project EmptyThu May 07, 2015 2:13 am

I thought that I'd share what I've been working on these past few days. Smile

While I've had to give up schoolwork this year, I can still paint and draw. So I've been watching tutorials on youtube. I've even been given some new paints to work with Very Happy bounce bounce bounce

This is my new project, I'll be trying out lots of different types of animals. Here is a water colour painting of a blue parrot Smile

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

My grandad has given me a huge canvas block Shocked What a Face  I've never painted on canvas before so I'm nervous about the results. It will be of two horses galloping across the canvas  Wink  I've started it and I'm pleased with how it is going, so I hope to finish it soon. If it turns out well, I'll post it here Cool

Wonderful bird !!! You cought exactly the right vibrant blue and playful expression Very Happy
And watercolour is very difficult, I think, - you did a great job !!!

Great idea to paint. In my limited experience time flies when you are painting, - it is a great hobby. Especially when the result is as good as this cheers

Thank you very much Susanne, Laura, LeeAnn, Kosta, Karin and Anna cheers cheers cheers

I used to do all my water colour paintings on paper which was a BIG mistake! They all turned out terrible. I have only just found out about the special paper used for water colour. Now I'll never go back to ordinary paper Surprised Very Happy Wink

Yes, there is a good - special paper for watercolor...just like yours Wink
It has to be more thick and also with more rough surface :)
This paper works very good also, when you draw with charcoal drawing ...or just with graphite pencils :)
When you use tempera paints, you need just more thick paper, becouse, they are also water based Wink
When you want to paint with oils..... it is good when you do that on the stretched canvas frame...and it has to be primed with a special Primer on Oil....
to be just like the  ``old masters`` Very Happy
But you also can use a paper which is primed...and then you can paint with oils on it Wink
I tried all this stuffs in the Art school...and a lot more....and every material is giving diferent feeling , which is very nice.
For example, with watercolor (aquarelle) , the good technique is, when you put one splash of color with the brush...and you don`t touch it anymore...:) I mean, you don`t put other splashes of colors over it... or at least not much Wink
Check here : HERE

With tempera paints, or with oils, it is opposite....with them it is nice when you put more paints..sometimes, over and over ... :)
some examples : HERE
.... ``professor`` Kosta, said it again..  Laughing

Ahh yes that's right! You collect foxes Roger! Oh dear, that's a worry pale Embarassed Laughing

Well, I took a break from my horses yesterday, to paint mum a picture for mothers day flower Smile
She loves birds, especially Paradise ducks, so I did one for her  Smile

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

After painting a duck, I couldn't wait to start a fox bounce  So I did Wink

Here was my reference image from Google:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

For this, I used Acrylics.
I had so much trouble trying to get the fur texture right Mad  I spent ages on it, but couldn't get it right Sad
Maybe some artists here have some tips???  bounce  bounce  bounce

First I did the outline

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Then I worked on dark and light tones.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Its important to define the dark and light places before building up colour and detail.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now I tried to build up the texture of the fur. But it didn't work  No

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Remember~ Never keep your hot chocolate and painting water together  Laughing

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Anyway: here is the finished result. I'm not entirely happy with. But maybe someone here has an idea?  scratch  study  Very Happy

I know lots of great people here but I don't know who knows these technics or easily I could suggest someone to you.
That's a question of time and you'll find the perfect person to help you.
You're right, you are here for a relatively short time and time is very important to get friends or good relationships, even those online.
Telling it and seeing your wonderful fox, I want to ask you if you ever red the Little Prince of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. That's my favorite book as a kid and also as an adulte once the story told is completely understood in different ages. If you never red it before, I recomend it to you and please pay special atention to the fox, her sentences are simple but very touching. Very Happy

I think horses are very nicely painted but the most incredible I find the composition and colours which you chosen for background. Very Happy
It is very modern concept for a picture and the yellow makes a very interesting and strong contrast to the dark silhouettes of two horses. Even more incredible is the lighting going from up and down symmetrically, it makes it almost abstract or make it look like a dream or vision. At some point that background with this kind of colour and lighting can look like connected to the concept of Icon and I think it makes the whole concept of your painting quite powerful. Shocked I don't know if that was the idea here but I thought you may like to think about it too Smile
