I'm not sure if this DTF thread is referring to the 6 Dinosaurs alone, or 2016 line collectively, but looks like we've got to wait until November. Crying or Very sad What a pity I'm such a needy and inpatient person. What a shame their 2015 toobs were a disappointment. Sad

Since 2008 I seem to recall generally seeing info from them at the end of October. Not sure why everyone is so impatient now.

If we did see anything before that, it was usually a retailer that received the info (note: I haven't yet either) that revealed before they were supposed to--something which Safari (and every other company) is not fond of.

Yes,every time I've ever seen anything in September it was a leaked catalog scan from an eBay seller,or images from Link and Pin Hobbies (before L & P went out of business).
Anyway when it comes to their upcoming prehistoric models,I thought that U.K. retailer Everything Dinosaur said on the DTF that Safari would release info on their dinosaurs in November as part of their "Dinovember" promo.

I didn't realize that Leedsichthys had been confirmed! That sounds quite great! I have seen some of the new releases; however, not as many as I have by this time in the past, unfortunately. Regardless, the ones I have seen are really, really, really nice. At least, IMO. Of the figures I've seen, there are some that people should be pretty excited about; others, though very nice, some won't be as excited to see. To each their own. I'm looking forward to the full reveal, as I haven't seen the Lynx, and that's one of the figures I'm most excited about!

I can't find any confirmation anywhere that there is going to be a Leedsichthys. Are you sure it's just not a guess on the part of fans on Safari's Facebook page?

I've only seen some guesses on the Safari page and the DinoToyForum, but nothing specific from Safari. It would be a pleasant surprise, but it's more likely to be an ichthyosaur, since there isn't one in the WS Dinos line (the Carnegie of course is retired).

Yes,I'm thinking the same thing. At the time these models were being developed, the Carnegie Collection was still ongoing,so it would be unlikely for Ichthyosaurus communis itself to be repeated,so I'm going to guess that it will be the next most famous ichthyosaur (thanks to the "Walking With Dinosaurs" series) Ophthalmosaurus icenicus.

Agreed--it helps that the other well known ichthyosaur, Temnodontosaurus, just showed up in CollectA's line, and there should be no need for repeating like that (nasutoceratops...Diabloceratops...).

It would be better to see a truly unusual one like Shonisaurus or Mixosaurus, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wish I could say they were possibilities, but Safari did specify that it was from the Jurassic. It was the only specific detail that they gave...but then there are still 5 more coming too,so who knows... Very Happy

I haven't been following the hints and whatnot very much - I am assuming that the Leedsichthys HAS NOT been confirmed then?  Is there some reason that people are assuming a species of Ichthyosaur? Methinks everyone is taking their hint about the Jurassic FAR too literally. What if they meant it sarcastically in reference to a movie with more than a few notable accuracy issues?

Nope, there has not been any official confirmation of any Leedsichthys problematicus.Unless you just inadvertently did so right now! Twisted Evil
Seriously though, they specified it as something that lived in the ocean during the Jurassic Period. That is of course much too broad of a hint to have any real hope of actually guessing right...

We'll all find out what Safari Ltd. has in store for us soon enough. Cool

Haha Nope. If they're releasing a Leedsichthys problematicus, it's news to me! None of the figures I've seen fit the description, I don't think, so I'm as in the dark as everyone else.

Safari Ltd. did say that there were 6 dinosaurs/prehistoric animals planned for release next year. But what they will be,I have no idea. From what I've heard, they will be revealed in November for "Dinovember". Very Happy

Very Happy

I just received an email that the retailer preview will be coming out in mid-October. It's usually a confidential document (so we're not supposed to reveal anything) but there's a good chance that someone around then will.

I also really hope 2016's toobs aren't useless disappointments like 2015. 2015 has mostly been an inactive year for me though.

Unless it's changed, Safari hasn't confirmed any prehistoric species, and they don't plan to for at least a little while longer.

Well Safari asked another qustion.

"How many horses are we releasing next year? Someone guessed 6 and Safari said that was correct.

So there will be six horses next year.

Thanks, I think that's an important information for horse collectors. Safari has a huge tradition with horses, unless 3 lines were released and 2016 will represent the start of a complete new collection. They will be, much probably standar sized, around 1:20 scale once they will replace the Winners Circle series. :)
I am curious to see how they'll start it. 2 families? 3 couples? 6 different breeds? Which breeds? bounce

They are good-looking figures.

The mosasaur is a bit of a surprise--possibly explaining the 'Jurassic' in the earlier clue (it was a part of Jurassic World, after all). But a vast improvement on their existing one.

Interesting that they are willing to do a few 'boring' herbivores with no apparent hroned or armored dinos. But after the Gryposaurus, maybe they feel stronger for them?

Plus, what will the 6th be? Still holding out for a true Jurassic aquatic thing...

Thanks Bojan, they have all a very convicent look. Specially the iguanodon. Thoughnothing really interesting for me. I hope the sixth is a prehistoric mammal, protomammal or crocodilian.

That's no mosasaur. Mosasaurs didn't arrive until the Cretaceous period. Very Happy That mosasaur-like predator would be known as torvoneustes, a metriorhynchid. The only group of archosaurs to become fully adapted to the pelagic lifestyle. Otherwise, known as an aquatic crocodile. Safari LTD already has a couple toob figures released for primitive ocean-going crocs. Dakosaurus and Metriorhynchus.

So far it looks like it's going to be
Shunosaurus lii
Iguanodon bernissartensis
Masiakasaurus knopfleri
Dakosaurus maximus

and an updated sculpt of
Carcharodontosaurus saharicus

And there is still one more to be revealed... Very Happy

It doesn't really look like a dakosaurus to me. Surprised It looks too— crocodile like. Dakosaurus has a T-Rex kind of head. That's interesting. Surprised

That would make more sense--I wasn't really looking all that closely, but the toes on the hind feet should have been a give away. I suppose I shouldn't be doing this while at work!

The name Torvoneustes is not certain, just still a guess (Safari hasn't said anything particular yet, that I've seen).

And thanks for the metriorhynchid lesson. Applause  Technically, they are the only group of Archosaurians that became fully aquatic, since Vancleavea is an archosauriform, but not an archosaurian.

And metriorhynchids are only one of two families within the Thalattosuchia (the other being the Teleosaruidae).

Did I mention that I was a consultant on the Prehistoric Crocs (and Prehistoric sharks) toob? My paleontology degree must have been for something. Wink

You are thinking of Dakosaurus andiniensis, which is understandable with it being in the prehistoric crocodiles toob. But this is Dakosaurus maximus, which has a skull and body that matches perfectly with the model seen.
