February's CQ release.

I love turtles and have seen many hatchlings up close.  A few, if not all, of these are extremely well done.  I especially love the starred tortoise.

Looking forward to this set.

Anyone can let me know if interested.

Two pieces of news...

Kaiyodo is releasing four figures at this spring's Dino Expo including the spinosaurus seen here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Then there's this 44 cm long guy, releasing in March...

Of course I can get all (though I'm wondering if Entertainment Earth will beat my price for US buyers with the same free US shipping it offered for last year's blue whale).  Please PM for details if interested.

Strangely, no April CQ set announced yet (The prehistoric set above changed from a January to March release.).

Thanks for keeping us updated about these Japanese brands. I like a year topic to each company. Everything turns clearer like that.
Now that I know the scale of that elephant, it is easier to understand why it is so expensive, fortunately it is also very well sculpted. elephant
1:12 scale is perfect to use in dollhouses. Laughing

My second reaction (after Wow...) to the elephant was that this was the second (after the blue whale) universally iconic species Kaiyodo has done in large scale and it's mildly reasonable to expect a third next year.

Wouldn't be a woolly mammoth after an elephant and not an African lion after another African species. So... Great white shark? T-rex? Apatosaurus? The company seems to like giant squids...

The first thing I did when I saw the zoo set was check to see if tamanduas actually stand up like that. First photo I saw when Google Imaging them was one standing in just that position.

These are my favorite sets Kaiyodo is producing now and I hope, as the broad (to say the least) subject matter warrants, they continue for a very long time.

Yes, I remember, while giving my imput on Mojo's tamandua development, watching some videos of tamanduas in that standing pose. Very Happy They're really funny, I think they use it to show their huge claws to eventual predators trying to intimidate them. But you have to see it on videos, it is really funny. I like that Kaiyodo was brave enough to provide us again some unusual poses. Very Happy

It indeed is a funny pose and I think it's great Kaiyodo's making figurines in this particular pose!
They indeed take this pose when feeling uncomfortable, to intimidate their 'attacker'. The sad thing is they also do this on roads when cars are driving towards them, so lots of tamanduas get killed by cars Sad

Deep sea set is an aquarium--not a CQ--release, and available now Of course that means the cost is significantly higher.

Please PM if interested.

The Unique Animal Zoo 2 set releases next week.

As far as I can tell, there is no July animal figure release (other than the big triceratops) and I see no Kaiyodo August release at all (though I'm told there is a big figure expo this summer so there will hopefully be some surprises).

But, these are the two September CQ releases, one celebrating twin pandas born in a Japanese zoo...

Accepting orders now.

Thanks.

Thanks for keeping your good work informing us about these new Japanese sets. It is also not particularly interesting for me but surely very interesting for a panda's enthusiast. :)

I was surprised early this year when no one showed interest in the Hoikkado giant panda and then none for the same subject in the Unique Zoo 2 set (at least on its own, though buyers did so for the tamandua and shoebill).  And so far, though I only announced the set to my mailing list today, I've gotten only two takers.

I'd have thought a species so iconic and charming would garner great interest, but I guess it's made by so many other companies that some are tired of spending money on different versions of it.

I certainly don't need eight or even four panda cubs in my Kaiyodo-only collection, but these are of course very nicely done as usual--and will display well alongside each other--so I'll buy and display some of them for sure.

As for the insect/arachnid set, I especially like the jumping spider but they all look nice enough to buy as well.

Still, I'm hoping there's some news coming from the pending expo, and one of my most wanted sets remains one of prehistoric mammals--though I guess for this board I should cite another of tremendous interest--modern ungulates.

Thanks for sharing, Brett! The hedgehogs are adorable and the sugar glider looks lovely as well Smile

Is it a sugar glider or a Leadbeater's Possum? It kind of looks like the Discover Science/Animals of Australia one.

Either way...how is that related to a series that is otherwise hedgehogs? Other than maybe as pets?

I'm just glad that the Kaiyodo prehistoric and marine sets had some gems, because I have to say, the CQ sets have not really done much for my collection this year.

Could be a possum as well, I just assumed it was a sugar glider Razz

If it's supposed to be a sugar glider, it could make sense because these and hedgehogs like the ones in this series are kept as pets. I'm not sure if Leadbeater's possums are kept as pets as well scratch But still, I don't understand this series completely.. What a Face
