| Giraffe is going to be my next project. There are no significant differences between the different subspecies apart from the pattern. So, no problem while sculpting but... what about the coat? Which one should I select? Not an easy question looking at so many options...what do you think? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Hard to say, because they are all so beautyful Aren't most of giraffe models the reticulated giraffe ? It could be great to see something different |

| I'd imagine those elaborate patterns on the Masai giraffe (g.c. tippelskirchi) could be quite fun to paint!
Aren't the the Rothschild giraffes (g.c. rothschildi) supposed to have really unique ossicones? Maybe that would make them more interesting to sculpt. There are also some photos of them with unusually dark markings. This could also make for interesting painting.
At any rate, I think Susanne might be right: most companies do seem to produce Reticulated giraffe models. It would be fun to see something different.
Looking forward to seeing whatever sort you decide to make! |

| Yes, I agree with you both...I will select a subspecies different than the reticulated one....although in the future I wish to make the six of them... Meanwhile, here there is the first draft of the sculpture: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Wow!! As a huge "giraffe maniac" I would love to see Kordofan giraffe :) Almost all giraffe models are reticulated (my favorite) but where are others? :) Also Massai is wonderful :) Your sculpture is really wonderful but if I may... head looks shorter and also neck :) And as a fan of these gentle giants... tail hair should be looong and messy :) But still... WONDERFUL WORK!! _________________ My webside / my collection / my youtube channel / my facebook / my instagram / my twitter [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| I couldn't find the average size of Kordofan giraffe. Apparently all the subspecies would be more or less of the same size. If not, I have to move to Masai or any other one, as far as I can light the volume of my model but not reduce his size. |

I think you should keep with Kordofan. I used to visit a fantastic website about giraffes called girafamania.com.br and it was easy to find some very interesting information about the subspecies, now it doesn't exist anymore and other websites are not very clear about different sizes in giraffe subspecies. Kordofan was also mistaken with Western African until recent years what means that there aren't conclusive studies about that. You're performing a great work, curious to see that tall bull finished. |

| I am still going around about which subespecies of giraffe I will make. I like Kordofan a lot, but I also like the rest too much...
So, finally I have made a decision... [b]I am going to do some of them!!!![/b]
From what I have been able to investigate it not seems that there are large morphological differences between them. Virtually they are only distinguished by the color and pattern of their skin. Then, I am going to make six especies that are generally recognized as been distinctive enough between them.
these are the subspecies I choose:
-Kordofan (G. c. antiquorum) -Reticulated (G. c. reticulata) -Rothschild's (G. c. rothschildi) -Angolan (G. c. angolensis) -Masai (G. c. tippelschirchi) -South African (G. c. giraffa) |
