Oh, this is exciting - can't wait to see it finished! The Iberian wolves I've seen in pictures have really interesting coloration. It should be fun to paint.

I'm a starting sculptor and like to know (= learn).
I have tried some projects myself and already accepted that sculpting is a very personal thing.
The kind of clay to use, armature to make, and ways of baking/sculpting, etc. seems to be a very personal kind of choice and preferences.
And I find it very interesting to read why people choose certain ways when it comes to sculpting.
That's why I ask.

This is a very good question as I see this more with other artists as well.
They begin to sculpt the head and work it to the detail, and then all of a sudden they start sculpting an other part XD
I have still the gaur calf to finish, but I am stuck! Don't know how to continue...

So this is also interesting for me as well Very Happy

Yes, as you said every sculptor has his own way. And even different ways for different models pending on the size, the level of details and so. What I normally use to do is starting with the armature and imagine how it would fit the model finished. Then, continuously looking to my sketch, I try to start with the most detailed part, usually the head, and complete the figure baking it step by step (when I use polymer clay) to replicate it as I visualize it inside my mind...

However, this is the following steps 9 and 10:

Oh seriously, what a beauty I love you Iberian wolves are just one of my favourite wolf subspecies. I'd love to see one of the major brands making one, but surely, I don't think it would be as pretty as yours Smile Can't wait to see the next steps, thanks for sharing all your gorgeous sculpting work! cheers

I am really overhelmed with your compliments...you are really very kind, Julie!!!

and now let´s see the step number 19: preparing the mold. For that I use plastic food wrap film, to ensure the mold is in his right disposition and to prevent resin undesired leakages...

What kind of resin do you use if I may ask?

(This new copy is white because I didn't use colorant like I did with the first one).

I find it very enjoyable to see how you work, step by step.
From sculpting, to molding, to painting.
Thank you for taking time to photograph each process.

Very very interesting, thank you for sharing! cheers Very Happy
I thought it would be more difficult making a copy. (Not that this looks easy, please, not meant this way!). Just thought for making copy's you need a mould with different parts so you can remove the finished piece without breaking anything? Or making a copy with several pieces of the body? Or why is it, that the mass produced pieces like Breyer and Schleich etc. have these ugly seams? Sorry, I have no clue about the different methods.. pale Shocked Very Happy

It depends on lots of different things: the size of the model, the number of copies you want to make, the complexity...and so. However, every sculptor has his own method that can change in different occasions. For models of the this size I prefer to use a single piece mold...
