PostSubject: When collecting takes over your house.   Fri Sep 02, 2016 10:20 pm

I've been a "collector of things" for as long as I know.
As a kid, I would collect feathers, rocks, pins, lighters, sugar packets, stickers, cigar bands, stamps, you name it.

There just is something about a shelf full of things that all look different, but have everything in common.
There's just something about a shelf full of things that have nothing in common, but look absolutely fabulous together.
I like to look at a shelf full of things and know that what appears to be chaos, is in fact a symphony when looking at it closer.
Like notes that create a song. Like ingredients that create a meal. Like colours that create a painting.
My bookcase:

Nothing there is by coincidense. Nothing there is left for chance.
It's My symphony.
I guess that is my OCD. And I LOVE IT!  lol!

I have many collections.
But here I will show my collection of animal figures:

There is a little recess when coming up the stairs to my house. It holds my doorbell...and some of my birds.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

When you get upstairs, you'll stand in this little hallway that would show you my "Farm Animals."
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

And that same hallway also has a door to the toilet.
And there I keep the Woof- box.

Upstairs I have a room where I can dry my laundry on a rainy day.
I have two shelves up there with Dinosaurs, horses and bulls that didn't make the display shelves downstairs.
But they're not sad. They know they are beautiful.   sunny

Thanks for the tour of your house! You make really beautiful displays, I loved looking at your shelves!
I have collected many different things in my life, too, and I think that as long as you can justify calling it "collecting" and not "hoarding" it is ok. Especially when you keep it so nice and tidy as you do ( me too!), then it can be nice to look at even for non- collectors.

You have wonderful displays! Someday I would like to be able to do that for all of my collections too, right now I can only display my pokemon and animal plush collections. As for my figures, I can only display a few on an acrylic riser on my dresser.

Interesting how you can turn your pure collecting spirit in art. You can make all your collections look as an improvement for your living places and not exactly a pile of obstacles. Laughing Wonderful presentation, very inspired both in pictures and words. You show that collecting is a dream and not a nightmare. Very Happy

Thank you for showing us your lovely collection cheers cheers The overall display is an inspiring one really, I just love it.

And I do agree with you regarding the magic of mixing together different objects which create an awesome " ensemble" giving us the pure joy of just looking at them!....modern "cabinets of curiosities" Applause Applause

This is an amazing collection! You really do have some of everything. I could spot quite a few really nice customs, particularly in your horse and dog sections. I really like your chestnut Schleich Clydesdale mare and upgraded New Ray Doberman. Very nice selection of werewolves, too!

"Ensemble" and "cabinets of curiosities".
Exactly what I mean.
I whish I could've come up with those words while posting my pictures.
You are obviously a better poet than me.  Laughing
Thank you for your kind words.

Thank you.
"Some of everything" sums me up perfectly. LOL!
Most of the Werewolves are model kits bought, assembled and painted by me.
I did a lot of model kits in my days and loved it. But unfortunately they cost a lot of money.
And money is something I just don't have. (And probably never will.)
So I shifted my hobby to something I could afford.
Little plastic animal figures. geek
And here we are. sunny

I've just discovered your collection with great joy cheers

I'm happy to watch and discover so many ways of collecting because of STS, so different from mine.

With your collection, I feel like "at home". I always think my collection as a unique thing that enhance and transcend the collected items. Cabinet of curiosity is the right term for me. I'm happy you share the same philosophy and you are creating a great collection, I can't wait to watch the evolutions Very Happy
