also if it had been a Barbary lion wouldnt it essentially be a figure of an extinct species(or subspecies in this case)?
The choice of species was chosen specifically buy a regular supplier hence it choice - I tried to go for the Barbary lion. Yes whilst the true Barbary is extinct, there are still remnants of its gene pool in existing lions. Google it and you will come across many lions with the huge thick dark mane and extra hairs on the underbelly.....
yes Ive seen lions like that, very beautiful. I saw a docu about an old zoo they had in Tower of London. They had Barbary lions there. They were the ones that fought gladiators in Rome. Very interesting species culturally.

I quite like these two. I wish that they would have made his mane a little bit darker, it would be a nice contrast but its a nice model nonetheless.
I was also hoping for this however, the SouthWest African Lion's tend to have a lighter colour mane so it was about sticking to reality......perhaps we can persuade them to make a Barbary Lion in future!
