I spotted a June Bug in the garden today, I've never seen one in real life before, they are incredible. It's shell/back looked like an acorn.

Hi friends,

in my language these bug called "Maikäfer". That means this bug comes in may. Why called it in England "June bug" ? Are they swimming from Germany to England and comes a month later than in Germany ? Or is it the iceland vulcano fog ???? scratch

Very nice pictures Harriet, very clear!

They are called "Meikever"in Holland too, which means May-Beetle, and that they appear in the month of may too normally, maybe they are just late in England... Rolling Eyes
I catched loads of them when i was young, now you almost don't see them anymore
around here... No

Thanks all.

Well, actually you are all right saying it is a May beetle, I was told a June Beetle by my brother (he wasn't sure either), but I guess reading here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that it is a May beetle and has other names, none of which are June Bug Embarassed
I don't know much about beetles, but I loved the look of this May beetle and wanted to share the pics Rolling Eyes
Their faces are very moth like, do you think? I love their fan like tufts on the ends of their antennas. You can't see them so much in my pictures, if at all, but on wikipedia you can and that's what they looked like on the one I saw.

Great photos. Thanks for sharing. Some really great closeups. They do look rather fuzzy like a moth. Very interesting. I have never seen one.
