miniNature's 3D printing animals - Update May 20: Finally Hyenas and more

There was one bird missing from the Zebra carcass model. This weekend I also created a separate model of the Lappet-Faced Vulture:




And as I said earlier, the impala herd keeps growing. Here I’ve a male and female with Red-Billed Oxpeckers.










The male is already online and the female will come later this week. I hope you like these additions!

Oh, how wonderful! More figures for the family of impalas and vultures. The little birds look like small jewels and very original to have added these figures to your collection. Also, the lapped-faced vulture looks great to me

Very beautiful and skilfully made models! I am very happy to see that you also have them in 1:32 scale so I can put them together with my Britains collection. Until now, I hadn’t been able to find animals that are up to the Britains quality, but your animals surpass those by Britains.

Is there much difference between Frosted Ultra Detail and Frosted Extreme Detail? I am planning to paint them and wonder whether it may not be worth buying the Extreme Detail versions because the paint would cover any very fine detail anyway.

Also thanks for your compliment Roger! The same type of printer prints those materials, only the layer thickness is different. Figures of Frosted Ultra Detail built from layers of materials of 29 microns (0,029 mm) thickness. The Frosted Extreme ones created with layers of 16 microns (0,016 mm) thickness. So both are very detailed and I think you’re right details on this scale will go most part hidden under a layer of paint.

I wish Shapeways could make fully painted models that would be great.

Thanks! Yeah, the 3D printing technique isn’t that far, they can print color on such detail. Maybe in some years.

Wonderful!! Now we just need 3D printing to advance to the stage where it is affordable and in full colour. If it's not too much, may I ask what software you are using? ... and do you use a pen/tablet setup?

Thanks! Yes, when they create the machine to print high quality color, it then will take some more years before it’s affordable. Maybe also nice not everything is taken over by computers yet and we still need the craftsmanship of the artists who can paint.

I’m using the ZBrush software. I think this is the best and most used software for creating high detailed models like these. I’m only working with my mouse and keyboard. I’m used to it to work with these tools, but I think maybe when I get some experience with pen and tablet, that would be a more efficient way.

Just looked at the Shapeways website and saw a cheetah! One of my favourite animals. But I need to wait, as I have just ordered two impalas and a buffalo and I would first like to paint them. Might take a while, as I don't want to ruin these beautiful models.

Thanks for your order Roger! Hope you’ll enjoy the models when they arrive. Nice you find already the cheetah. It was only 2 days ago I uploaded 3 of them in only one scale. I think this weekend I can upload them in also in the other scales and will show them in this topic off course. Good luck painting the models.

There are also already for some time 10 different models of Asian Domestic Water Buffalo online I made on request. Now I nearly finished to upload them also in the other scales. 8 of the 10 models I cut a part away so they fit for dioramas where they stand or lay in water. I’ll not show them all 10 here, but here is a selection of them:

Thank you guys! Yes Miguel, the wild one is also on my to do list, but I think not in the near future. These are created for a Vietnamese war diorama, but I also want to focus on the Indian wildlife.
I’ve also 3 new ones! The first two Blue Wildebeests and a Nile Crocodile.
