| This is the topic where I'll share any customizing I've done on figures. At first I was careful, as much of my collection had associated memories from when I was little, and the new additions often had nice paint. So the few things so far have been rather "safe" targets for the brush. Lately I've realized the number of waiting figures has grown (Safari toobs are especially tempting), so I don't think I'll ever run out.

| These deer were the first complete repaints I did. They needed rescuing, especially the female. I wanted to keep spots on them, so they became chital (axis deer). The figures have big heads and a stout build, perhaps better suited to fallow deer, but fallow deer antlers would have required customization with a bit of air-dry modeling compound (which I didn't have), while chital antlers could be approximated using a knife. If I hadn't wanted spots/big antlers, the best choice would probably have been something like hog deer, muntjac, or even little antelopes. But I'm happy with them as they are. Before: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]After: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.](See, they are very well fed. It must be the wet season!) They have a slightly comical personality up close, due to their small size. One or both of the males may get more black around the mouth. Someday I need to make an Indian forest diorama, so they can meet some neighbors. -Andy

| Wow, They're so small! It must have been realy hard to paint those little white spots on such a small animal... I love them! |

| Thank you both. Christina I just saw your new horse repaints, they're really nice. I've seen the Camargue sculpt and like it, but never thought how it would look as a different horse. _________________ - Andy

| Thanks to each of you for the comments. More catching up to do: Years ago I got a set of colored plastic animals in a bag. They were better sculpted than most of my tiny animals, and became an important part of my childhood-mini-zoo-animal-collection. (Some are Marx copies, I think, but maybe not all .) Anyway, there was a squirrel among them, way out of scale, in an odd shade of BLUE. It didn't get much use, certainly not in my miniature animal parks. But with the tiny animals it stayed................. ........... Finally, I held the squirrel again and realized it was a perfect size to go with many larger animal figures( ), if only something could be done about that color. So I painted it as an eastern gray squirrel, Sciurus carolinensis, holding a black walnut fruit (alternatively a green crab apple). Most figures in production are Eurasian red squirrels, and a little larger, but now I finally have a nice small local squirrel. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Little squirrel, why so blue? Doesn't anyone want to play with you? Hmm... That's better! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Maybe repetitive, but different light: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I hope you can get the general idea... I think the brownish is more obvious in all the pics than in person.

| Interesting presentation! Yes, almost all squirrels are eurasian red squirrels and the grey squirrel from Safari is a giant! It was an excelent idea to transform that little figure in an Eastern grey squirrel, it just looks great, mainly with the racoon! |
