I like all the horses so far. The one with the terrier is a new kind of model for them and I cant help but smile. The tapir is concerning if it is really just a remaster, but overall its a good model. We collectors would just appreciate a little more effort I think. And I appreciate the toy poodle immensely. Not only does it have a different haircut than "traditional" figures of this breed, but it's a new color as well. I repainted my New Ray one to this apricot color, so I'm excited for this figure as a dog collector.

A box set or 'tube'? Box sets are collections of standard-sized figures; the tubes of 'mini' animals would be different and exciting (and I have kinda been anticipating it based on other tube sets released)

In the website it states a collection of mini insects and spiders. It's in Greek and it uses a Greek word that could either be a box or a tube. I guess it's a tube though. Wink

A tube would be much-preferred (it would mean new sculpts)

Great, the Horseshoe Crab and the Nautilus are also extant animals. Hopefully, it is Limulus polyphemus.

The Insect Toob, the Gorlla, Komodo Dragon and the Tapir sound interesting, too.

The centipede and the insect/spider box could easily represent new species for you, surely? I don't think we know what the centipede is yet.

The non-dinosaur prehistoric lineup is really quite good. Certainly O. megalodon wouldn't have been the prehistoric fish I'd have chosen (Rhizodus? Leedsichthys? Eastmanosteus? Protosphyraena?), but the Triassic tetrapods, the trilobite, and the cephalopods are inspired and innovative choices. They will definitely liven up and add variety to my shelves. It's such a large lineup that there's something for every prehistoric collector, even fans of pretty run-of-the-mill dinosaurs like Allosaurus.

For me the same, it seems this year could be a cheap one...
Perhaps the possibility to remplace some figurines by better/newer ones.

For CollectA malayan tapir, I´ve to wait some walkarounds and reviews by experts if it´s accurate. Than I would remplace my older one.
Knowing the last year King Crab, the horseshoe crab and their insecte/reptile range, the anthropods will be to big for me. Perhaps the tube has some unique species...

But CollectA had at least every year a gem and never released wildlife figurine before...so I´m still hoping.

Assuming this list is accurate, I will plan on:
-black widow
-centipede
-insect tube/box (unless it's a box set of their standard figures)
-horseshoe crab
-trilobite
-nautilus
-Lisowicia [in 2020 I will explore therapsids and maybe some other synapdids]

the sloth and puffin will be based on the species; and the prehistoric cephalopods will be based on size. The Komodo dragon would have to be a substantially better figure than the Papo one for me to replace it.

If the list accurate, the trilobite, horseshoe, belemnite, nautilus, etc would be of interest to me. I wish they would have picked a different predatory fish than megalodon but I guess you cant have everything. The horses are great as usual, I love the unique breeds. Same goes for the new cattle breed. I'm in need of a puffin, I need to see it first though. And although wildlife is largely common species, I'm no less excited to see them. No surprise either, as they've needed to replenish their more common molds for a while.

I might get the cattle too some day; domestic cattle is one species I don't mind having several breeds of (but it would probably be a late 2020 or 2021 focus). 2019 was building a base Synoptic Collection; 2020 will be 'filling in the gaps' :)

Yeah, I'm pretty happy as a prehistoric collector, but all those horses seem to have come at the expense of a robust wildlife lineup.

this is a good year for you and I for sure, Tim! I am actually kind of glad the wildlife isn't more expansive. I have bought a lot this year building the base of my Synoptic Collection, so I was hoping 2020 would be a lighter year where I can just fill in the gaps with random figures now and then :-)

Hmm...

Yeah, the wildlife and sealife for this year is quite underwhelming. In the off-chance the sloth is based on Bradypus pygmaeus and/or that the puffin is either not an Atlantic puffin or a particularly good figure of an Atlantic puffin, I might get those figures, but that's it. Frankly I'm not too unhappy though; at least they're releasing something for those lines, and also I'll be able to catch up on missed releases.

For prehistoric life, I'll get Fukuisaurus, Bajadasaurus, Saltriovenator and the following unrevealed figures, depending on how they turn out: Lisowicia, Orthoceras, Redlichia, Pleuroceras, Horseshoe Crab and Belemnite.

Apart from that, I'll most likely also get the set of mini insects and spiders.

Shocked  Lisowicia, the cephalopods, trilobite... exciting and suspenseful to anticipate what they might look like. Sloth, puffin, mountain gorilla are suspenseful too (could the sloth feature a baby, like the Papo?). Despite its prevalence in figures I'm still a sucker for Komodo dragons.

The Bajadasaurus is beautiful, a big difference from their Amargasaurus and probably their best sauropod (finely sculpted and the skin texture looks more subtle). Its nice to see them try a theropod without a permanent base. I'm sure many will be happy to see another huge pterosaur model. I wonder if the Diplodocus on that list means a repaint?

I count four prehistorics (including the trilobite) that were recently described, continuing CollectA's reputation for adventurousness.

If that is the complete list. It is a poor year for wildlife considering CollectA standardes. Since Reeves International bought CollectA, it is the first year I feel things are too much centred in horses and wildlife is taking a secondary level of importance. Fortunately, for collectors of prehistoric animal figures, they are preserving their focus, the biggest strength of CollectA commercially. I hope it is not the start of a bicephalous brand with the focus in prehistoric and horses. We need the wildlife richness CollectA brought these last years.

Mountain gorilla sounds good, at least a replacement that makes sense, as the actual ones are very outdated. But still, seems to be a very narrow wildlife range this year, a trend that seems to be continuing for this brand. Sad I'm definitely worried.

I understand that the majority here is waiting for something more, especially in Collecta's wild life range, but I made this list translating one by one the products of 2020 line from the Official Greek website. I suppose it's unlikely there is something else...

All horses will move in, as well as the panther, komodo dragon and if they please me the Tirol cow and the megalodon

I've done some research and I found out, that the Baird's Tapir and the Malayan one had the same ancestor. Whereas the South American ones share another branch. Even today, the Baird's Tapir and the Malayan one share many similarities in their shape. Only the geographic location, the size, the body colouration and and very few differences of the head shape are notable to distinguish between the two.

Im disappointed by the few wild animal releases this year. Seems they have been reducing the number of wild animal releases in place of more horses and dinosaurs. While I like the later I don't like more of them taking spots of the former. Crying or Very sad

the horse with the dog is nice(hopefully the dog isn't permanently attached) but is it me or does it seem an attempt to compete with Schleich cuteness? Does anyone know what the horse breed is?

So... no new antilope, bird or small carnivore mammal from CollectA next year?

CollectA is kind of a wild card in terms of the relative number of releases from year to year. 2019 had fewer prehistoric releases and more wildlife, so maybe 2021 will be similar. It's hard to discern a real trend, except that horses ruin everything.

From this batch, the most interesting is the Lisowicia, it looks like a pygmy hippo in troubles with some dermatological problems. Laughing
Interesting cattle figure and beautiful horses.
Lazy era for CollectA is confirmed with this black panther reusing the leopard mould. Well, not as censurable as the tapir but considering CollectA used different moulds for previous generation of leopards... Sleep The centipede also looks great, mainly because of its pose and apparently detailed sculpt.

The centipede is spectacular. Probably a Scolopendra; hope CollectA gives its full species name

EDIT: I just saw the announcement from CollectA and the centipede is not specificiated. There are a lot of Scolopendra species, and there is a lot of variability among the species. Scolopendra polyomorpha is a likely candidate, but when I get mine I'll leave at the genus level (unless someone from CollectA can supply a species name).

It looks like the Giant Redheaded Centipede (scolopendra heros) but I might be wrong. ( [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] )

The figure is 18cm x 3cm  (LxH)

I edited my post (above) while you were typing more. It looks more like S. polymorpha than S. heros (I had both species near my house growing up in Phoenix), BUT as I said there is so much variability, even within a species, it could be anything really. I typically associate the dark, nearly black last few body segments with S. heros (but it's not always present, especially in younger specimens)

The horses are nice ( keep in mind, just like there are dinosaur/prehistoric collectors or just wildlife collectors there are people who just collect horses too). For me, I enjoy that CollectA at least produces new breeds instead of the exact same breeds over and over. The leopard is a little disappointing but unsurprising. I thought the cow was going to be a bull, but nonetheless it's a great figure. So far, the most exciting for me. Otherwise, the new permian figure is exciting as well.

The centipede is spectacular, but not a surprise to me. I have been waiting 5 years for an 'insect/arachnid' (not marine crustacean) arthropod by CollectA. I predicted the next one would be a centipede, ant, or wasp. I did not predict a spider, but if someone would have asked, I would have said black widow. Why? Because unlike dinosaurs and bovids, CollectA's insects are common and familiar. Please note, this is NOT a complaint; I have no problem with common and familiar, and welcome the same species by multiple brands (it's fun to compare). I would happily take CollectA's quality for common and familiar, and I am just happy a non-Japanese company still makes arthropods with some regularity!

After nothing for four years, I got the king crab last year and FIVE this year: black widow, trilobite, horseshoe crab, centipede, and insect tube!!! What is funny I have been building a Synoptic Collection all year and I feared what 2020 released might cause me to replace stuff already. With CollectA it is the opposite, it's a breakout year for arthropods and none of the wildlife grab me (so far)!!!!!

And for me, I'm ok with a slower collecting year as it will give me an opportunity to catch up on past years models (I'm so close to being a "current" collector, besides finding some old rarities of course). The only side effect to a slower year is if it's a symptom for a downhill spiral for a brand (bullyland for instance). But for now it's too early to tell yet!

Exactly, my plan was to build the basis for a Synoptic Collection in 2019, take a step back and fill in a few gaps in 2020, and then in 2021 maybe explore dinosaurs. If I ever decide to do dinosaurs, I have to see what approach I want to take because of space considerations. I might me more likely to do Japanese/small figures.

That is a very nice centipede. It's tempting to include it in some Mesozoic displays; scolopendromorphs have been around a pretty long time. The Lisowicia is phenomenal. Funny that it took a dicynodont the size of an elephant before any company would deign to produce a quality figurine of a long-lived and diverse clade.

The Lisowicia Bojani is wonderful. Yeah, another triassic animal. Applause

The Centipede and the Megalodon are also nice. But i hope, that Megalodon will be big.

But i don't like the tyrolian cow. Why all brands make them with this crappy bell?

Although I am probably a year or so off from thinking about dinos, I have thought about getting into prehistoric therapsids, and maybe other synapsids. This is just so big though...

On the plus side (from a practical/space standpoint), there aren't actually that many. My collection only contains 20 species of non-mammal synapsids, and one of those is a custom singleton. Others wouldn't meet your standards for realism. So it's a pretty small universe.
