Hello friends! Not long ago I,ve got from our friend Roger (the Great Mojo-rator) the beaver model by Mojo. The model is cute and accurate made. The morphology of beaver body is more realistic. Thanks dear Roger! cheers And now Mojo-boy has meeting with his international family! They alltogether are building the Great dam on the river in my home! Wink

P.S. BTW excuse me for bad camera I have,nt better now... Neutral

... our hero...

... with his family, left to right: father (Papo), mother (Schleich), elder brother (Collecta), younger brother (Mojo), little sister (Nayab)... Laughing

... family on the building of the Great Dam... Laughing

What a beautiful family Sergey! I'm glad you liked it and I'm happy the Mojo beaver found a great family! cheers
Is only missing the Uncle Same, known here as Safari American beaver! Wink
I love the detail of the paws, every single digit is carefully sculpted! Very Happy

With the exception of the Papo beaver, the others are all basically in the same position.
Why not make one in a swimming position(like the Papo platypus)?

... near "same position"... Be attentive my friend:
Papo - is sit on two back legs,ok!
Schleich - is standing on 4 legs
Coleecta - is coming
Mojo - is sit and some eating
Nayab - is standing on 4 legs (as Schleich)

It,s almost all positions of this animal! The beaver has,nt many interesting position! Laughing Laughing Laughing

The Mojo beaver is in a different pose from the others... I think the Papo is preparing to diving, maybe the water is too cold, try to wait some time and he dives! Wink

My point is this...there is a lot of "copycatting". Wish these companies would be different(If they want to make a beaver, fine, do it in a swimming/diving position instead of the basic standing), think outside the box(Papo's sitting beaver is different), and try to be more original!

I agree with different poses, mainly when we are seeing what is not the first version of a figure from a brand!
It is very hard to make an animal in a not apealing pose when it is in the first year production! But, for example, Schleich makes another beaver in future, I think they should make it in a different pose from previous!
Simce you know the Nort American fauna, maybe you can help me here, I agree when poses are educational, it means that the figure is represented in a position that shows any characteristic from the species! We can see it in the male CollectA swan, the Safari warthog and in drinking giraffes! As you know, is not usual the completly standing pose in European beavers, it is much more usual with American beavers! Thinking that the Papo is an European species don't you think that the pose was a bad choice??? Or is it an American??? Idea

No, Papo's choice of a sitting beaver was fine. I have friends in Alaska, and I saw a pic of him with a tamed beaver, in a sitting position!

Balty, have you read my complete comment??? This pose is characteristic of American beavers and I think the Papo is an European beaver that usually adopts a pose more like the Mojo beaver, ... or is the Papo beaver an American??

From what I read up on beavers, the Papo looks more like the North American beaver.

If you go to wikipedia.com, there is some good info on the physiological
differences of the North American and European beavers.

Yes, and the bipedal posture is due to the longer shin bones of the American species! Both are able to stand in bipedal pose but this is more usual in New World species even able of some walk in with only two paws! There are some differences but not easy to see in small figures! Maybe Kiki is able to count the number of chromosomes that is different! Wink monkey

The best way to be sure is to cut the head of your castor and look at the cyclops Foramen magnum. If it is triangular, it means the beaver was american study What a Face Laughing

Which scale is your Papo beaver???? Remember that he is an American species so it is smaller than the European! I'm glad to know that you already don't care with scales! :)

Papo beaver is my favorite! However, I don't own it(Won't get woodchuck/groundhog either), because if I were to place it in my North American diorama(in the vicinity of the Papo moose, wolf, and black bear) way too big!
So even if I like a figure if it's way too large and looks out of place, I just won't get it!
I made that mistake with the Papo meerkats(which I really really like and think they're the best) I bought, it's just they're way to big!

Sergey, that's correct! I am! So if any of the toy makers are reading this, keep on making big beavers(Papo), small elephants(Papo) and rhinos(safari ltd), because until they are "relatively", in proportion, you won't be getting my money! It's your loss guys! If the 2011' Papo elephant was 6.5" x 9" I would have bought a whole herd!

I'd loved to see a whole herd of elephants, exactly of the same size and in the same pose as in a choreography for a Michael Jacson's videoclip! Very realistic and accurate! tongue Ah, choreografists are really obsessed with perfectionism! elephant elephant elephant elephant elephant elephant

Point well taken, however, since they don't have 2 or 3 different elephants, I would position them(The same figure) at different angles, so that when displayed they appear to look like different figures. Another trick I have, is sometimes if I can do it(If parts of the figure have some give), I Crazy Glue a trunk to the body or Crazy Glue a tail in different position etc.. Ex: My Britain's standing gorilla, I have one where I Crazy Glued both hands to the chest, just for a variation, and it looks good!
If I want multiples(Say a pride of lions) of a figure in my display, I try to make a variation of a figure. I also may repaint them to look different as well(Some of my lions have darker manes that I repainted).
I have 7 Papo lionesses(walking position), that I have displayed at different
angles. One's behind the jeep and you just see the head sticking out, the other is on top looking the other way, there's one in front but you see the left side of the figure, so it's the same figure, but because angled differently, they look like different figures. Plus it gives different views of the figures(Kind of like a display walk a round) : )
So yes, Michael Jackson's choreographer would be delighted by my ingenuity
for using many of the "same animal figures" used in my display!

Thanks Roger! It's kind of like my ten Roseline barbs in my 90 gal aquarium...
They are indistinguishable(all look exactly alike), but when they swim around and school they look really cool because you see them at all different angles!
So it's just like my figures (that I have duplicates of), it's all about the set-up and angling them : )
Hopefully I will take some photos and share with you all!
