PostSubject: The SCHLEICH 2011 Baird's tapir by Kikimalou   Wed 18 May - 22:21

Do you remember my SCHLEICH Malayan tapir with his white socks and hears, his smiling face ? Laughing

He was fed up to see the SAFARI Ltd one laughing so he asked me a new costume.

As you maybe know, it's the second time I try to help a model...

I did this costume for him Embarassed

A bit of context for my friend Roger Wink

The Baird's tapir (Tapirus bairdii) is one of the four species of tapir still alive and the biggest of the American tapirs. It is also the largest land animal from Mexico to the north of Colombia. Baird’s Tapirs can reach 2 metres in length and 1.2 metres in height.

Baird’s Tapir is in danger of extinction.

Except human beings, the only ennemies of the Baird's tapir are the big American crocs and adult jaguars.

Now come back to the pics Wink

WOW ! That is a fantastic tapir you made out of an ordinary tapir cheers

The paint job is great, if you look at the "professional" painjobs, there are also little irregular things, hardly visible to the eye Wink

And thankyou for telling about this impressive animal and the endangered situation.
Isn`t it horrible so many endangered species that most people don`t even know about Crying or Very sad

Christophe, we just got a new artist in the forum cheers sunny flower

Thanks Christophe! Nice paintwork, excelent idea and useful information! Unless for me! I love see it together with the pictures even it is known for most or we find it easily! Is only missing that Belise was your inspiration. They call it Mountain cow! I remember you saying that the Schleich tapir has a cow looking, I agree, not only the tapir, so it looks the mould is perfect for your new species! Congratulations talented friend! monkey cheers

Thank you all for your kind words. It is really important for a crazy French macaque to share this with you. I'm happy you like it monkey

Samson : I can't wait to see your repainted one Very Happy

Harriet : I hope one day I will be able to do a real fantastic repaint but you words reached my heart Very Happy . I was always looking at your giraffe when I did this one Wink

Sergey : I will do a pic soon Laughing

Ania : I feel better how your work is fantastic. It help me to make progress.

Susanne : flower sunny cheers

Rogério : Next time I will repaint a Schleich tapir like a Charolais or Simmental Laughing

Minhea : I used Prince August acrylic paints. I washed the model and applied a grey base, then the basic colours. Then I made several wash drawing to give more relief and "camaïeu". I will improve the technic on my next victim. I think the more wash drawing the better. We will see... Suspect
It is absolutely not sticky.

Looks awesome! Just one question what's a wash drawing?
Are you talking about the creamy yellow area(neck/face area).
Again, fantastic variation! I was going to do it with the Safari tapir, but will try it with the Schleich.

Thanks Balti,

What I called a wash drawing is something like a lavis, paint diluted in water and several wash to let only some pigments. I used it on the whole tapir. First with the creamy area but I have to improve the technic and on the body and top of the head. The more you paint a zone, the more it is dark. The colour doesn't change, only the numberof layers and so the number of pigments. I think I was better with the body.
I hope it could help Very Happy

Hey Christophe, but that it is only your second painting, this succeeded very well indeed, respect, keep it up. Very Happy And I know how difficult such color transitions are to paint. Also, it is again described very entertaining, thank you Crazy French macaque Laughing .

I just think the Safari Malayan tapir has more of the Baird's body type to convert than the Papo.
I'm sure either will look good after you get done repainting. I am going to repaint my Safari tapir.

an interesting crest going for the top of the head down to the neck.

I have too much models I still have to buy so I will not save money for a second SAFARI ltd tapir. This one will stay my modern Malayan tapir.
So good luck with yours, I can't wait to see it. Very Happy
About the Papo tapir, I will try to do a PAPO Brazilian tapir not a Baird's. Wink

Laughing , Ana, you are reading in my mind. I will try to find a WILD REPUBLIC tapir and paint him as a pinchaque tapir.

My plan is :

SAFARI ltd : Malayan tapir
PAPO : Brazilian tapir
SCHLEICH : Baird's tapir
WILD REPUBLIC : Pinchaque tapir

In Polish the Brazilian tapir (Tapirus terrestris) is called "tapir anta" - I don't even know why Laughing

Magdalena, this is funny because ANTA is the name in Portuguese language! As you know the language of Brazil! :)

For more authenticity, you need to ad the dark spot on each jaw/cheek area. That will be the finishing touch!

No, Willy! You surely already have painted your kitchen as Kiki did before, this is like a previous stage of a talented painter! Me? Not even a kitchen, nails or lips! Sad

Well, yes Rogerio, i do paint quit often as a matter of fact, because one of my best friends was a professional painter, who teached me the trade...
But it seems that i am painting more in other houses, then in my own... Embarassed

Poor you Rogerio, not even painting things in your own house?
So who is doing that then from time to time??? Shocked
