If the tiger cub is nixed, then my #5 would be the Malayan tapir.

I agree the prototype PNSO giraffe is awesome; I didn't choose it because of the issues reported here.

It is difficult to choose just five, but those I like best are:

Komodo dragon by CollectA (arguably the most lifelike of all these models)

Bushbaby by Safari Ltd (just look at those big eyes!)

Galapagos tortoise by Schleich (very lifelike detail)

Giraffe by PNSO (excellent detail for the skin pattern, and well sculpted body)

Sugarglider by Safari Ltd (unusual subject, good detail for eyes and fur)

3. Eikoh - Indian Rhino
4. Eikoh - Warthog
5. Safari Ltd. - Sugarglider

I vote for these 4:
Dromedary by Schleich
Tiger Cub Standing by Papo

So there are quite a few things to look at by choosing the models for this year...
Originality(scale doesn't matter in my view), finishing(the warthogs for example, either the overall shape is good, or the colouration...), not walking the ever going paths(lions, elpehants, rhino's ect.) and in my case for sure...realism...
So this is my choice:
1. Bushbaby Safari Ltd
2. Sugarglider by Safari Ltd
3. Matschie's Tree Kangaroo by Safari Ltd
4. Giraffe by PNSO(as shown on the picture here, very realistic)
And be sure to follow up on the latest knowledge on giraffes, they are brought back to only 4 species, the rest of the former 9 subspecies are indeed subspecies by genetic sequence, the Rothschild is not even mentioned anymore btw...)

About the wonderful Tiger Cub Standing by Papo, it was announced for 2020, but never came out (it is still not on the market actually) and I think Papo moved it for 2021 ... Is it for sure belongs here ?

Checking the Papo 2021 catalogue the tiger cub is not presented as new for 2021. I only think its availability was postponed for 2021 what already happened with a few figures, often because of production issues. So,officially, it remains a 2020 release even if nobody has seen it yet.

How can anyone votes for a photoshopped promo picture? The actual item can be bad or fantastic, there is no actual photo of the model anywhere. It's like voting for a record judging from a press release..

I just noticed that there are already about 7 votes for the Tiger Cub. I didn't know, my previous comment was not meant to offend anyone, but...

..hypothetically, the Tiger Cub wins the STS Figure of the Year. And the model is postponed again or never gets an actual production. Would the STS result look ridiculous?

I understand, however, these contests have loads of contigences and we have to manage with them.
Obviously we could postpone the figure to the 2021 contest and someone could ask us why the Mojo Fun 2019 crocodile is not here because nobody watched real pictures of the final product before 2020? We have also the Papo anaconda mistery and I could give you loads of other examples besides the many 2020 releases that are not listed here.
When we vote for the 2020 record of the year, we also make our choices based on several circunstances and for sure nobody could have the chance of listening all the records not even a significative number of them. I understand the votes for Papo tiger cub, it is a figure that generates high expectations and people can easily judge it just comparing with the corresponding adulte. However, I haven't voted in this model and I'd probably vote if it was already out and reviewed.
If Papo tiger cub ends winning the contest and never sees the light, we can always disqualify it and give the honour to the 2nd place. We can even ponderate, if the model wins this category, to put the two first places of this category at the final poll.

Well, it gets too complicated when the simple thing is to move it to next year's poll. Past mistakes are not meant to become tradition, generally speaking. Anyone can make his choice, but it's also unfair to the actual model.

What I know is that a record that could be not heard anywhere or a book that was not available to read, would not enter any poll.
