Comparison Grey heron and great egret

Hi,

I recently bought the Kaiyodo great egret (which is btw not a little egret as indicated on TAI but a great one in nuptial plumage, that's why the bill is black like a little one's instead of yellow, but the striking blue at the base of it clearly indicates a great, as well as the ratio neck/total lenght IMO) but I am wondering if I didn't make a mistake sizewise. I thought it was ok since the seller said it was 6 cm (while the heron is 5,5) but when I see it next to the small guy figure, it looks really small.

The Schleich man (including ring) is about 4.5 cm, so I think the egret is about 6.5 cm (without base).

What, really ?! I thought it was a tiny figure like 1-2 cm. It reassures me, a great egret is supposed to be very slightly taller than a grey heron

It is 7,2cm tall with base and 6,8cm without base, you need to count the base since the feet are underwater. Which Grey heron are you talking about ?

Mmmm that's not what the Papo official website said...

So I guess the egret is too small as I feared then.

However, it's quite obvious that a significant part of the egret's legs is immersed and that the base is not wide enough to compensate it. So I guess the acceptability of the compatibility will depend on the thickness/bulkyness of the body.

Only a comparison photo will help you, but since you already ordered it, what's the point?

The seems are, moreover, wayyyyyyy more visible than I thought...

Too bad, I missed a nice crab opportunity because of that.

It is, furthermore, impossible for me to customize it as a little egret. It just evokes too much a great one in my mind.

Mmmm yes, it bothers me a bit because the model is great except for these seams...

And the size difference is really really perfect as a little one...

I have to think about the degree of dishonesty I'm ready to demonstrate in order to keep it as a little egret. The custom is easy to do, even my local painter who doesn't know about animals can do it.

But in my opinion, the neck is clearly the proportional lenght of a great, what do you think ?

Again, don't take the bill's colour into account, that's just a matter of breeding or non-breeding individuals.

What a fantastic Great Egret that I was unaware of. I would accept the trade if it was not with a base. I could customize it cutting the base and adding the remaining of legs, but then it would not stand!

Yes, the size would be much better for your collection. Tell me if you're interested (but I doubt you would agree to give a silky anteater in exchange, would you ?)

Only if the figure was modelled witouth a base. As I said, I can't customize it without base because it would not stand :-( for sure you will find somebody interested in such realistic model of a species rarely done :-)

I could do with a 2-3cm egret for an upcoming project, but sadly not a 6cm one (I'm going to have to sculpt it myself, aren't I )
