PostSubject: Reshaped Oviraptor   Sat Jun 11, 2011 9:59 am

Following Martin's tutorial, I reshaped my Carnegie Collection Oviraptor into a more agile and lifelike looking pose. There in no more tripod stance now, and he balances perfectly on 2 legs. Here are the pictures:

BTW: Never ever try to reshape a Papo reptile(extinct or extanct). Their skin turns fillet. Tried on the Velociraptor and barely managed to put it back into place. Shocked

I have tried reshaping some PlayVisions and they don't work. I think it is the same thing for K&M.
I am affraid of trying Bullyland animals, since they aren't made of plastic and may melt.
I am affraid of trying Papo after the raptor incident.

I reshaped my brown pelican and Dilong from Safari to help them stand better(only minor feet improvements)and they look great now.
Tried on the Caudipteryx and it didn't work so well(it stands, but very hard to position).
The Oviraptor's feet start to crumble and he will need a base if I want to keep him whitout support.
For now, my Parasaurolophus keeps him in place.

Great work Mihnea!!! I love the prehistoric figures from this brand but the tripod solution is a shame! It looks they are surrounded for people with knowledge about prehistoric species but cannot sculpt well balanced figures! So you did something that they were not able to do, some personality and you corrected the balance. Accuracy is only one of the points of a figure! Very Happy

Yes Roger, it is a shame. Even though I have changed the oviraptor, the weight center is in a totally different place and he won't stay upright... No
Same for the caudipteryx.

BTW, I have reshaped my Anhanguera by Schleich to look to the right rather than boringly to the front. Then, I changed my CollectA pteranodon to look downwards as if he is trying to catch a fish from the water. And lastly, my Collecta Tenontosaurus to look in front rather than look paralized in fear to the right. Wink
