Christophe, I'm sure it is easier for you to understand a Portuguese in France than for us to understand them when they return to Portugal! Laughing
Many of them forgot their own language and start talking Franco-Portugais! affraid

haha! I have a friend who spent last year in France... But fortunately she continues speaking a good Spanish!

Great new Bully's here! Very Happy
The bearded vulture is my favourite, it seems that Bullyland does more on the details now... Rolling Eyes

Of course the Roman languages are very similar, so Portugese, Spanish, Italian, French, Romanian and the mother of those languages Latin are more or less similar.
When you speak on or two of those languages, you are mostly able to speak to the people of those other copuntries, or understand them.
My girlfriend comes from one of the Dutch Antillies, were they speak Papiamentu, which is actually a mix of Spanish, Portugese, Dutch and English.
Without the different forms of the verbs(they don't have that), this is quit easy to learn, and when you speak this, you are very able to understand those other Roman or Latin languages. Very Happy
Besides from that, the verbs are "cut" short, so even easier to learn.
I spoke this before i learned Spanish, so it helped a lot, and helped me with my Italian, and even some with my poor French... Laughing

By the way, the European languages from the western part are all more or less family, as a lot of words in English and Spanish are quit the same actually strangely enough, even though they are in 2 different language families...
It is often only differently pronounced... Cool

Well, a Portuguese without knowledge about any other language is able to understand a Spanish but not a French or a Romanian, only some words but not enough to have a conversation, Italian is half-understandable! But, the most studied in Portugal it was the French language and many people from here migrated to France so it is some familiar due to intercultural facts! :)
I always studied French inspite of English and I confess it was a wrong choice, I was and am very bad in French, even worst than in English!

But my future hobby will be learning dutch! Very Happy

Really great to see all of these Bullylands together Andreas! Very Happy
I have a huge collection of them to, because i liked them from the beginning i started to collect the modern brands, and the price is right indeed! cheers
I love the bearded vulture and Mandarin duck, i have to get them to! Laughing

Again a Schleich sneeked in Andreas, the marmot or groundhog(Murmeltier).
By the way Harriet, the one you thought it would be a prairiedog is in fact a marmot to... Laughing

Yes, that is true Harriet, and often difficult to see in models, but the prairiedog is so much smaller as the marmot, he could easily fit 4 times into the marmot... Rolling Eyes
I saw both in real life from very near, the prairiedog in a zoo in Spain(Elche), which was eating out of my hand, and they were running free.
The marmot i saw in an Alp-tour with my brother, waiting for his underground lair to come out, it was about 50 cm from his face! :)

After answering this tread, i made a quick search for these pics, and i found them! cheers
Here is the picture from the Alpine marmot i mentioned, i was lying for his lair, waiting for him to come out.
I think i was about 17 years old then, so about 32 years ago!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The next pics are from the visit in the Elche Zoo in southern Spain, next to where my brother lives, where i shot these prariedogs...
They were walking around free as i said, and they liked my peanuts!

They are such cute pictures Willy - used to see them in the wild in Canada, when I lived there. It was funny watching them poke their heads out of the holes. The wild ones were very timid.

Thank you Harriet, Andreas and Mihnea! Very Happy
I remember now, that we saw some wild Ibexes in the Alps to, in that particular time, and that on our very first hiking-tour in the Alps, which was a very big luck!
A lot of my brothers collegues and friends never saw one before in their lifes in the wild, and they did lots of those hiking tours in the Alps, just over the border in Austria.
My brother and his Bavarian wife lived in München in that particular time by the way...
My brother still owns this picture, i have to ask him about it.
Although far away, when i remember well, they were clearly to be seen.

By the way, it must have been great living in Canada Harriet, so much wildlife around there... cheers

By the way, it must have been great living in Canada Harriet, so much wildlife around there... cheers
Must have been lovely seeing the Ibexes!!!

I was very young, but yes I enjoyed it - I wouldn't want to live there now though, I love England too much Laughing

Yes it was Harriet, they were about a few hundred meters away from us, so we kept quit and a low profile to enjoy the great site! Cool

Although Canada is a great place to live, i often wonder in nature programs, how much wildlife the Uk still has, some very rare European species, and how close wildlife is to humans sometimes...
But i am sure, it has to do with the way how houses and cities are build here, very close to eachother, and small cultured gardens, which are not inviting to the wildlife i guess... Crying or Very sad
