Are they hard brittle plastic? If so they might be Marx Hong Kong and so could be painted. They didn't paint any of the figures made in the US. They have names on the bases? That means they are original Marx and not the later copies or reissues. If they are the usual soft plastic but painted then they are probably painted by a collector at some point. It is a nice job, they are very attractive

Great Andreas!
Yes, these series are from the 1950's, but later on, they were produced again with some more painting, same as in some mammal-series... Rolling Eyes

Yesterday i had a big lot from Rusty in, including the same deer as in the very first picture, but marked with Hong Kong, so a definate copy, as Tim already mentioned before, they were copied to, as many brands from that time. Cool

As I said in other thread, but I will say here too - yes I think it's Marx. That series was all made in Hong Kong of the more rubbery plastic. It has the right colors and looks good quality to me. It matches with a reference image I have as well.

Willy? Isn't the white bear an American black bear? Why you call it grizzly, have you any reference document saying it? scratch I have that figure and it looks an American black bear but maybe I'm wrong? albino
The beaver is surely an American beaver although we cannot see it in a figure but the standing pose is more common in American beavers and surely Marx made their woodland series inspired in American fauna. study

I can understand why you think that about the bear, but it was ment to be a grizzly, speak American brwon bear, and as you said before, they made them after the American faune, so i suspect the beaver is American to...
I got the info from this one site, from which i gave you the link long ago on this forum, where you can spend weeks, only researching... farao study scratch

Laughing Laughing monkey
Thanks for the link, I never heard about it before. Do you know Willy, I think Marx sculptors were very competent and it is hard for me to understand why they forgot the hump that we find in grizzly bears. The morphology is typical of a American black bear, that obviously is also an animal of North American fauna. But when you are not sure you can always check Willypedia! geek

Yes, i agree on the baer, it misses the hum indeed, although most models were very accurate, specially for the time they were made in... Laughing
But this bear has a kind of beard to, which is not typical for the baribal i think... Cool

Here is the first Virginia Whitetail Deer

I have a few Marx animals in various scales, and thought I might as well add them to this thread instead of starting a new one.

First up, large scale in hard plastic. I got them like this, and think they were factory painted (Hong Kong? Taiwan?). Does anyone here who knows more about Marx stuff than me know about them?

Now some in a smaller scale. The top 3 in medium/soft plastic, the bottom two in harder plastic and from the individually boxed 'Animal Kingdom' set.

Now normal scale unpainted animals

Now most of the Marx nativity set, which includes some animals.

I'd part with all except the 2 'Animal Kingdom' ones, the Ibex & Elephant, if someone 'makes me an offer I can't refuse', sale or vintage swap.
