PostSubject: New arrivals   Thu Feb 24, 2011 8:21 pm

Thanks to the Tapir liberation front preservation fund - I keep getting their name wrong - I got some awesome little models I probably wouldn't have found otherwise.

When I bought the Wild Republic bucket and saw the genet, I was initially a little disappointed. Not because it was a bad model (not at all!) but because I'd just ordered one just like it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Or so I thought...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Though similar, they're in slightly different poses, and the new arrival has a shorter snout. Oh yeah, and it's gigantic.

A trio of PV civets: Spotted linsang, banded palm civet, african civet.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The linsang was actually what brought me to Taprback in the first place: I was browsing Cryptomundo, came across a post on rare viverrids, and lo and behold - there was a mention of how rare they were in model form, and a link to the one place that had them in stock!

Finally, some little monkeys. They look like the ones from the Nayab catalog and, though probably not really hard to find, are hard to search for, being unbranded. I especially like the galago and aye-aye (the website says tarsier, but I disagree), and the purple-faced sifaka just had to join my lemur bunch/pack/herd/flock/whatever it's called.

Spotted Genet Cat is huge loi! But is nice! Actually I like it. Is it possible to take a picture with Schleich lion or other brand and I might want to get him? Thanks

PostSubject: Yesyesyes! They're heeere!   Fri Sep 16, 2011 9:39 pm

*happy dance* A box from MPV turned up and it contained a lot of goodies I've been waiting for since... well, since they were announced, pretty much.
And just because I'm a big ol' meanie, there are no pics just yet... ran out of batteries.
I got these Safaris:
Prehistoric crocs toob
old North American wildlife toob (last time I ordered the current one by mistake, but that's a good one too)
Horses and riders toob - just beautiful little lookalikes of the bigger models, and much more detailed than I'd dared hope for
Guanlong
Carnotaurus
The very lovely ms Medusa
and a sweet little oldie, the retired Leptoceratops. Unfortunately he has a prepping flaw with an extraneous bit of plastic holding his mouth shut, so I'll have to do a little plastic surgery.

But that's not all! My big box also had the Papo eagle (finally a bird without undersized wings), the great big beautiful Collecta Kelenken, and my most wanted model of the year: The Bullyland bearded vulture! cheers cheers

Some pics at last!

Who's a pretty birdy then? Laughing
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Carnotaurus, who is of course stark raving gorgeous. Seriously. Behind him you can just make out the toob postosuchus and a Bullyland dimetrodon, yet another brand new oldie.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And then there's this guy... or rather these guys, because I bought two. This is actually my first Eberl!

PostSubject: Various new finds   Thu Sep 22, 2011 8:27 pm

I dropped by a flea market today and found a few animals! That may happen to you lot all the time, but it never happens to me... so of course I grabbed what I could find.
This lion is HUGE - bigger than the Bullylands even - and made from solid rubber and as such quite heavy. It's stamped Imperial 1993.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I swear I've seen this tiger cub before, but can't identify it. There's no maker's mark beyond "Made in china".
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I think I had a camel like this when I was little! It looks like an n-th generation copy of one of the better oldies.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Chinasaurs, yay! Very Happy The big Edmontosaurus I think I've seen before, but can't place it. It's a nice historical piece.
Don't ask me what the little green critter is meant to be!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Some new arrivals too. These are all made by Toy Major (in a stunning show of helpfulness they actually printed the name of the company on the packaging! cheers ).
The bigger animals came in a bag/tube which also included the compulsory badly sculpted zebra and indifferent giraffe. Why do companies that make such nice big cats insist on having herbivores when they clearly don't care about them?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The marine animals came in a small bucket, very similar to the ones K&M have. I don't know what other varieties they have, the only ones I saw in the shop were this one and a reptiles/amphibians one. As you can see the colors are... um, interesting.

How do you call the second bird on the left? (we call it "quebrantahuesos", which could be "bonebroker" in English") I absolutely love it!

Congrats Sumo!
I think the big sitting tigercub is like the AAA model, and probably made by them.
The Bactrian camel, is a China copy of the vintage Britains model.
The earlier Hong Kong models are more accurate, the mould is getting worse over the years i guess... scratch
Some of those fish i saw in Sergeys collection, probably he has more info about them... Rolling Eyes
