PostSubject: I sculpted something?!   Tue Nov 22, 2011 9:28 am

Believe me, I'm as surprised as anyone... Laughing
A while ago I bought some Sculpey, more out of curiosity than anything else, but this weekend I got the strangest urge to actually use it! As it turns out, this stuff handles beautifully - it's easy to shape without being as soft as apoxie, and luckily it didn't go funny in the oven.
Anyway, for my first sculpt I decided to try a flightless cormorant (being an upright-bodied, short-legged bird, which conveniently meant I didn't have to sculpt any legs). There are mistakes aplenty, but I'm still slightly proud of myself - at any rate, it didn't turn me off sculpting completely. Who knows, maybe I'll even improve with some practice!

Trust me to make something as impractical as a crested crane... Grrr, stupid head tassel thingy. Think I'll just give in and go to bed.

Ohhh, Sumo ! Don`t give up Shocked
If it doesn`t come out right, put it aside and make some other models untill you are more practised .

One of the first time I tried to sow my own clothes, I tried to make a real old-fashioned shirt, of all stupid things geek
I have never sown anything again, - and that is probably 40 years ago Rolling Eyes clown

But perhaps your crane is being much easier after you have slept ? Wink

Right, I'm about through with this dang critter...
Ignore the legs, please! I'm going to stick to penguins and other legless birds, I think. Embarassed

This is tassel #4 - I wish I were kidding - and this is probably as good as it gets. First I tried sculpting, then wire, then paintbrush bristles. Finally I discovered some embroidery thread in approximately the right color...

He is SO lovely drunken I love you

What a lovely idea to make a tuft on his head Very Happy

I can see that legs are very difficult to make, - from what we see, you are not the only one having a bit of a struggle there.
But the body, neck and head are wonderful !

And best of all, - he seems to be moving...something about the way he carries his body and neck Very Happy

I can`t wait to see how you proceed, you certainly have talent. I am not surprosed, having see your drawings Wink Very Happy flower

Well, everybody started that way Sumo... Very Happy
Not bad for first attempts! Very Happy
When you want to make thinner and longer legs on birds, i guess, you use thin metal wire for that, but better ask Ana and Harriet! queen queen
