I suppose you've noticed how stupidly many owls there are everywhere these days? They're on clothes, on furniture, on jewelry - everywhere. I just have to say right away that this has nothing to do with the trendiness of owls - it's an attempt at a christmas present for my uncle, who's a bit of a bird geek. He's especially interested in owls, and his favorite is the eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo
). I was going to just repaint the Schleich one for him, but somehow I can't muster any enthusiasm for the model. So I thought I'd try my hand at sculpting one.
It's much smaller than it looks, and obviously not quite finished - when it is I'll get better photos.

Finished or not it is a wonderful gift, your Uncle will be very happy with him. I am a bird geek myself
and my family and I just returned from a vacation to the big island of Hawaii. While there I went bird
hunting several days up on the mountainsides near the volcanoes. While driving across the fields up to
the high forests I saw an endangered Hawaiian short eared owl hunting. This is a great owl to watch because
it evolved before rodents were brought to the island so it hunts birds during the day.
Here is a photo of him, sorry it is out of focus, this is the first time I have used this camera and I obviously don't know how to
get all the kinks out of the auto focus yet,
Just a bit of trivia for your Uncle if he really is a bird nerd like me.

i opened this thread without noticing it was in the "Custom Animals" section, and when i saw him, i thought he was a Lineol, with the best paint job ever, and i thought, "just
an owl"?? what is she thinking?! it's "just a masterpiece"!
and then i realized...
it's not a just a masterpiece, it's a homegrown masterpiece! congratulations on the creation of this beauty! your uncle will be thrilled with this little gem!
