Toy Animal Wiki

In the All Interesting Brands thread there is some discussion of creating a Wiki for toy animals that all could contribute to.

As a test project I've started a Wiki at Animobil: Toy Animal Collecting Wiki
You have to register as a user to edit.

If it looks like people want to do it I think eventually it should get it's own website and hosting. That would require some income, so perhaps there could be an annual small fee for contributing members to help the site exist. That is for the future though. For now I am happy to host at Animobil until the project is ready to move to a bigger spot of it's own.

For now we have to decide how to organize such a Wiki.
Do we start by sorting by the nation the company is in? Just sort all companies alphabetical? What are your thoughts?

I would arrange them by alphabet, if I was you , - if you chose by country, you already presuppose that people know about them

We have discussed making one here on the site, but it doesn`t seem to have sufficient interest. Perhaps we are too few ?

i like this idea!!! A few months ago we discuss and i want also start a website. But i havent enough time and also no idea how i can start a own website.

Well the nice thing about a Wiki is that you can arrange in multiple ways.
I am thinking of coming up with a template for a company listing and then one for a theme, and an animal.
The company listing can include the country and then there can be a category page for companies and also a page for countries so it all links together. Something I would like to see is being able to use the wiki to find out what brand of animal you have based on what it is - for instance a brown cow with china on it. You put that into the search and any possible ones would come up.

I've been wanting to add a section on my American collection of animals and this seems like a good way to do it. Something I think about in the long run is what happens to Animobil after I am gone. It's made with a specific software so it would be hard for someone to take it and host elsewhere and then expand it. A wiki can be downloaded and re-hosted somewhere else. If it has it;s own site then there can be multiple people with full access so it could go on for years regardless of people no longer being active for whatever reason.

As Susanne said, we thought about it but it is a lot of works.

If you manage the Wiki, we could put a big link on STS and help you in any way you need to enrich and support the encyclopedia.

My idea based of the websites of Kiki and Torben. So i think about categories about the specie/subspecie, animal-family, size/scale, material, brand, variations and time when produced. And i think it is also good to have information with a real value/price.

And what you think about a market? I you search for this animal or you have this animal for sale?

At least I completed Mojo Master List and list of series on Toy Animal Wiki!
Well, it is still missing the pictures!
I hope to have the chance of making also it with some other brands.
I decided to use the English and German names on Horses and Farm series and scientific names on all other series.
I'm missing some German names and also few scientific names on Prehistoric life.
So, if someone find something to add please tell me!

Unbelievable, i wish i have more time. I see listed any animal figurines that i have but without pics    But i really have the time for more activities at this time.

Or just a standard Lego-brick. It is not so dominating in a picture
