PostSubject: Show us your poultry!   Sun Mar 18, 2012 9:56 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, the chicken has landed.

It's that time of year again... eggs, fluffy yellow chicks, gallinaceous ornaments galore. A local shop started selling these fairly nice but badly painted figurines, so obviously I had to pick up a few to repaint!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I found a book on poultry breeds of the world (a must in any well-stocked library Wink ), and apparently that's all it takes to get me hooked. It doesn't hurt that this is one animal that is quite easy to find in model form...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The brown Schleich hen I already had, but she didn't really come into her own until I got her Bullyland friend. There's something in their attitude..

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Tinies! The made in China cheapo is way nicer than the Bullyland micros, really detailed.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This guy is just weird.

Anyway... *drumroll* Let the thread commence? Or are you... chicken? lol!

I enjoy watching chicken collection, they are very cute :) Some of these models I see first time. The rooster looks really funny Very Happy
I don't have any hen in my collection. My son has 2 or 3 though so I may take photos of them :) He had really beautiful CollectA rooster but unfortunately lost it somewhere...
I think any birds which I could count as poultry are my mallard ducks and goose by schleich but I use to think they were wild Laughing

Schleich brown hen, colorful rooster, and chicks!

The same here even I'm enjoying seeing yours. I don't have a single chicken. Many foxes here! affraid
I'm more used with scientific classifications, like Galliformes (Chickens, turkeys, grouses, pheasants, peafowls, etc) or Anseriformes (ducks, geese, swans). They are very distinct groups, I guess! :)

Shocked these are amazing!!!! the white pair are works of art! their paint might not be "realistic" but it's brilliant. The black one is very striking.

What a lovely show of Chickens!

To us, "Poultry" is everything that you would find in a poultry yard. So we unpacked the Ducks, Geese, Turkeys, Guinea Fowl and Pigeons ... and packed them all away again ...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Back in 1956, Lesley was given this family of White Leghorns for her birthday. They are metal figures from the "Prize Poultry" section of the old Britains Farm range.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Here they are with a Schleich Zebra to show scale.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
More from Britains metal poultry yard.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Composition Cockerels by Elastolin and unknown makers.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Composition Hens by Elastolin and Lineol.

Other composition Hens.

They are WONDERFUL , Sue and Lesley cheers

I can`t believe that there are so many of the old metal ones from Britain, - the chickens are absolutely delightful ! And the one nesting ! drunken
And it seems that by them they could make defferent breeds Suspect

Thankyou for sharing from your enormous treasure of models again flower

Yesss!!!! Then my memory isn`t quite gone...I was sure that at some time I learned that "Poultry" was just as you describe : The feathered ones that the farmer`s wife went out to feed in the morning...ducks and geese and turkeys included cheers

The word poultry includes the assumption that the birds are meant to be used by humans, and I don't believe they are. I call them chickens, ducks and geese, because I think their life is valuable regardless of the money, meat or eggs one could benefit from them.

And yes, maybe the brown one was just laying an egg when the others gathered for the photo. I've never seen eggs around here, though. But one of my Schleich dogs seems to have gained weight recently.. scratch And I've also seen a marten running around here..

Animals of the sixties, made with celluloid.
The Paint bad, because were much used.
Are very rare animals and is important that
people know toys of old years.

Chickens from Hong Kong and China

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

unmarked chickens mostly from China I think

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

and last my chickens from US companies. I have marked on the photo here who made which ones.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The American Metal Toys are the large ones of lead. Judy Toys and 2 of the Auburn ones are hard rubber, two other auburn ones are composition, and the other Auburns are rubbery vinyl.
The Marx on the left are vinyl and next to them to the right are soft plastic, Ohio Art are vinyl. Littletown is a rare one in vinyl from an O gauge train accessory company.
That's all for these guys :)

Oh I really enjoyed looking at everyone's poultry, they're all fantastic collections cheers
Sumo, I think I've said it before, but I love your Schleich cockerel repaint, I want one!!

Here are mine:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Schleich apart from the Phoenix Cockerel by Safari (far right), Bullyland common pheasant and Kaiyodo Mallard Drake.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Britians

I included the Mallard Drake because some people keep them here, even being wild and the females not laying regularly - and of course I have a real one too Wink
