PostSubject: Susannes little flock of Clairet-figurines   Fri Mar 23, 2012 6:03 am

My collection of models from Clairet is small, and there are no rare or valuable items, but I love each little figurine. Wink
So please allow me to show you. Very Happy

Perhaps somebody can tell a little about them ?
Also if they are not what the sellers have told me that they are. Some are marked F. Clairet, and some have no marking, so I have had to trust the sellers...but some of the unmarked ones I got suspiciously cheap Rolling Eyes Laughing

First the charming lions

Some great figures there. I like the monkeys a lot, they look more like chimpanzees I think.

Congratulations Susanne for such nice vintage figures! Thanks for showing them with Starlux, I enjoy it. They surely also go nice with Britains. :)
The monkeys are chimps, the seals are sea lions and surely the last ones are leopards. The one with large spots could be what you want! Laughing A jagpard, maybe! Wink The gnu looks blue but I can be wrong! geek Wink
I absolutly love them! flower

Congratulation for your CLAIRET collection. cheers I love you

I'm 6 years old each time I look at them Laughing drunken I remember playing "Tarzan or Mowgli" with those animals. They were not mine but I had an older cousin who had them and let me play with king

This company was a post WW2 French brand who made Toy soldiers, indians, cowboys, knights, farm and zoo animals.
The first models were hollow-cast lead and very very very rare, I haven't any, and later hard plastic.
The models were sculpted by François Clairet and have a special touch, a bit art deco Wink
I believe this company disappeared in the 1960's when STARLUX became as present in French shops as maybe SCHLEICH is present now Wink
Little is known about the company because catalogues, number of products, etc are unknown too No

In the 1950's CLAIRET models were copied byt the US MARX company and the UK WENDAL Wink

The main problem with the CLAIRET is disease What a Face Some models are sick, they host a bacteria which eat them and tranform the plastic back to petrol. The models have white shades on them and sometimes suppurate oil. This is a contagious disease which can spread among other CLAIRET or Hardplastic models like STARLUX. affraid

The only thing to do is to put the suspect in a never ending quarantine.
Fortunately, a lot of CLAIRET are still safe Wink

I posted a few pics of CLAIRET production [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Very Happy

Thankyou VERY, VERY much for your help, Christophe ! flower

Both about the background and the identification of the models .

AND for telling about the "disease" !!!!
I think I have one of those, - it is sort of gray and full of cracks affraid
Fortunately he was standing among the Starlux in the vitrine, - now I have moved him to another place, - I hope he hasn`t infected the Clairets What a Face

Sorry Susanne, I mean the disease could spread also on the STARLUX What a Face but not on a PVC SCHLEICH... Wink

Wash them but separately then, no paticular studies was made for such an unusual disease scratch

Don't forget to wash your hands when you have touched a model that could be infested.

But, ok, I have my CLAIRET collection for years now and it is still standing very well Wink cheers

K, I thought you were joking around about the figures being contagious, but that sounds like no joke!

Last week I got a few more Clairet-figures Wink
It was a little exiting, because nobody else bid on the little lot, so it was possible that it was just junk.
There WAS some junk, but also some nice models, - like a little kangu from Hauser Elastolin.

And camel, - I think it ids from Clairet. here with the dromedary from Starlux Wink
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A Barbarian sheep, I think, - compared to the larger one from Starlux :
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

AND my first variations bounce bounce
Tigers cat
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Two of our ancestors farao
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A darker Kangoo bounce
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A liighter Zebu alien
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

All small things, but cute, I think Wink

A little while ago I was fortunate to get the striped hyena from Clairet cheers

I wanted to take a picture outdoors in order to ( hopefully) show the detail, but it rains and storms all the time this "summer".
This morning there is no wind, so I took a picture between the showers Laughing

Susanne, any time I see a Clairet, I look to see if it is another very long bodied figure, I do it since Christophe showed the Clairet lion. It seems that it is a characteristics of these figures. And here is, a long bodied hyena, incredible, these animals have relatively short bodies. It is not a criticism, only an observation. In fact, I love them and I think if I find a Clairet with short body, I'll get disappointed. Laughing
Well, as far as we can consider a cobra a short bodied animal, the Clairet one doesn't look stretched at all. :)
