In January 2016, Kaiyodo produced a new geckos set with five models, four species and three new molds.

As I have some place for newcomers in my vivarium, I decided to buy it and forget... Until Brett remind me I was on the hunt Laughing

So, thank you Brett Wink , here are they. Two crested geckos sunny , a Four-clawed gecko drunken , a Madagascar giant day gecko cheers  and another Leopard gecko with the same mold than in the precious set Crying or Very sad

May I introduce them?  Very Happy

The Crested gecko (Correlophus ciliatus), is a species of gecko native to southern New Caledonia. It was thought extinct until it was rediscovered in 1994.

The crested gecko has hair-like projections found above the eyes, resembling eyelashes. It has a wedge-shaped head and a crest that runs from each eye to the tail. Crested geckos do not have eyelids and so they use their long tongues to moisten their eyes and remove debris.

The toes and the tip of the semi-prehensile tail are covered in hundreds small hairs (approximately 200 nanometres in diameter) hairs called spatulae. It is believed these structures exploit the weak van der Waals force to help the gecko climb on most solid surfaces. They possess a semi-prehensile tail which they use to assist in climbing. The tail can be dropped as a deterrent to predators. Unlike some other geckos, once they lose their tail it will not grow back. In fact, most adults in the wild lack tails.

The crested gecko has many naturally occurring color groups, some of which include: grey, brown, red, orange, and yellow of various shades. Kaiyodo, by chance, wisely made only two variants with the same mould: Orange and yellow.

The Four-clawed gecko (Gehyra mutilata) is a wide-ranging lizard that is probably native to Southeast Asia. It has made its way to several areas of the world including Sri Lanka, Indochina, and many of the U.S. Pacific Islands. The gecko is somewhat plump, with delicate skin. The skin is usually colored a soft purplish/pinkish gray with golden spots on younger specimens; these spots eventually fade with age.

Like many other geckos, it is very adaptable to its surroundings, although it usually prefers woodlands, rocky areas, and human dwellings. The species is fairly large for a gecko, reaching up to 12 cm. Its tail can reach almost the entire length of the body.

The four-clawed gecko shares with the Tokay gecko an unusual ability (for lizards): it is able to vocalize, making chirping noises reminiscent of a cricket.

The Leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius) is a crepuscular ground-dwelling lizard naturally found in the deserts of Asia and throughout Pakistan, to parts of northern India. Unlike most geckos, leopard geckos possess movable eyelids. It has become a well-established and popular pet in captivity.
They are large for a gecko, about 20.5 to 27.5 cm (8.1 to 11 inches) in length and weight about 45 to 65 grams.
Those found in the wild typically have more dark, dull, and drab colorations than those kept in captivity as pets. Those in captivity generally have an assortment of skin colors and patterns. The skin of a leopard gecko is very durable, which provides protection from the rough sand and rocky hills terrain of their dry environment.
Leopard geckos have the ability to voluntarily detach their tails if it is attacked, grabbed by the tail, bitten during copulation, or nipped by another during feeding. This is called caudal autotomy. After autotomy the tail can continue to twitch for as long as 30 minutes, allowing the gecko to escape from its predator. This detaching of the tail causes a high level of stress on the gecko due to the loss of the valuable storage of fat it once had. It will start to regenerate its tail immediately because it is needed for survival.

The gecko in the set have a very simple colouration, very different from the Kaiyodo gecko figure collection 1 ones. Too bad the company used the same mould than in the previous set, which already content 4 Leopard geckoes with different coloring. this is the bad point of the set for me.

Phelsuma grandis  is a diurnal arboreal species of day gecko. They are commonly referred to as the Madagascar giant day gecko, due to their large size. They are native to areas of tropical and subtropical forest in northern Madagascar, but have been introduced to several other subtropical locations outside their range. P. grandis feeds on various invertebrates, very small vertebrates, and nectars.
This lizard reaches a total length of 30 centimetres (12 in). The body colour is bright green or, rarely, bluish green. A red stripe extends from the nostril to the eye. On the back there are typically red coloured dots or bars. These red markings are quite variable, and in some cases, completely absent, though the line extending from the nostril to the eye is always present. Some specimens may have small blue spots.

Very interesting little set with some great species! Very Happy
Also fantastic pictures as usual. I suspect you don't have vol 1, isn't it?
If it is convenient for you, I can add them to TAI.
Thanks for walk around, I think presenting a whole set is the nicest way to that particular section. cheers

Thank you Rogério.

I don't have the complete set vol1 because there was four leopard geckoes with the same molds What a Face I only bought the models I wanted Wink

Thank you to add themto TAI, I don't have enough time as you noticed, only a few entries from time to time. Sleep

Yes I like to present Japanese sets in one topic I try to do it each time I can but sometimes I just buy a part of a setand can't resist to make a walkaround if the model hits my heart.

Of course the fact of a complete set being a better way to present these figures doesn't turn undesirable presentantions of uncomplete sets or individual figures. cheers
So I will add them on TAI. Very Happy

I remember first getting a book on geckos in 1992, talking about the extinction of the crested gecko (I worked in a pet shop). It was good to later learn that they are at least thriving in the pet trade!

I only got the brown myself--no need for repaints!

Same reason that I haven't bought any of the leopard geckos; I don't like to encourage the same sculpt with multiple paint jobs. Especially when there are so many different, interesting eublepharid geckos out there. The only one I am sure of is the Kuroiwae gecko (Goniurosaurus kuroiwae from the Kaiyodo Takara ChocoQ set 9.

Also, the day gecko is supposed to be the Madagascar Hill Gecko or Madagascar Day Gecko, Phelsuma madagascariensis madagascariensis. The Giant day gecko, P. grandis, is included in the same species-complex as the subspecies P. m. grandis.

I agree, making the same sculpt with multiple paint jobs is a really bad habit and there are so much geckoes to sculpt. Goniurosaurus kuroiwae was in the series 8... And I missed the two models What a Face

About the last one, Kaiyodo named it Phelsuma madagascariensis. It can't be Boehme's giant day gecko or Koch's giant day gecko because of the colors but I am unable to choose between Madagascar day gecko and Madagascar giant day gecko. The Kaiyodo page translation named it "Madagascar Hill Gecko" which is not a subspecies and said it was based on a large gecko so I chose the largest one. Why do you choose the Magagascar day gecko?

Right, 8th series. Not sure why I wrote 9.

As for choosinng 'hill gecko', that is the name that comes up when searching for the figure; a search for Masdagascar Hill gecko finds it as P. M. Madagascariensis, so that is what I went with.

Other sources, liek this one: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] just call it Madagascar Day gecko (which, again, is P. m. madagascariensis).

That's the only one of the 3 geckos from the PV 'geckos&chameleons' set that I didn't have.

But, I did have a real one for several years. They're more fun, unless your heat lamp burns out during the winter... Sad
