Hi all

Please take a look at the six photos below which I came across online. They show some of the various body coat styles that can appear on this breed of dog. Of the photos shown, please vote for your favourite style/colour/pattern that can then be used as a basis for a future CollectA model.

thank you

Could you add more choices please, or change some of the pictures?
Dog in the first picture - those spots in the undercoat dog owners always try to hide with white powder, it doesn't look good...
Dog in second picture - dogs with white head should have darker pigment, black ring around the eyes, if they are of good quality. It's very hard to make it look good on a model animal, and not to make it too toyish.
Dog in third picture - good color but black mask between white and red makes the muzzle narrow, it would be better if there's no black mask - just red/white contrast
Dog in fourth pic - not bad color pattern, good color but the pose is bad, no life in that dog
Dog in fifth pic - dogs with that color usually have light eyes, which isn't good for AST
Dog in the last pic - good pattern but black isn't my favorite color in AmStaffs

Don't blame me for trying -
Red/white color of dog No 3, without the black mask made in this pattern...

Where is the brindled pattern? That is my favorite color in any dog where it is an acceptable pattern.

Yes, natural, uncropped ears, please!

Pattern no. 6 is nice, I think it would also look good on fawn dog:

If Italians prefer their Cane Corso and Neapolitan Mastiff cropped, I agree. If Germans want their Schnauzers, Dobermanns, Boxers, Pinschers docked or cropped, I agree. Also, if Americans want their Boston Terrier docked and American Staffordshire Terrier cropped, I agree...

I do NOT !!!!
Let people get piercings and tatoos as much as they want, but leave the innocent animals with thir bodies intact ! Suspect
It is bad enough that we breed crippeled animals because some pople think they are "cute", but cutting their ears and tails off is stupid and ridiculous and a silly sort of fashion-freeking from days when ladies wore corsets and Chinese ladies had their feet ruined to look "beautyful". Mad

SO! Now you know MY opinion about this matter Wink

We're all entitled to our own opinion. It's forbidden to crop now so I don't do it anymore. I can't make you like them (nor I will try to), and no one can make me not like them Wink

Ooh, this is going to be great! I love staffies. Very Happy As far as color goes, I'm very partial to dark brindles... still, color isn't exactly a dealbreaker for me, I can always repaint. Just as long as the ears are the way they're supposed to be!
I can accept altered ears or tails if a model is meant to represent one specific individual or if it's meant to be a historical piece*, but as a representation of the breed as a whole, no way.

* - I have model horses with docked tails, for instance, but they're meant to portray animals from one particular period rather than just generic horses.

Very exiting Very Happy Brindle is a wonderful color but I can always repaint him. So I voted for 5.

I would also prefer natural ears.

I voted for 2, but I do like 6 a lot too. (And would be very happy with 5.) Moral issues aside, I confess I like the look of the "cut" ears. But I had no idea before this thread that the ears were cut.

I like the red fawn dog with a black mask, so I guess, dog number 3 is the closest to that(Not really wild about the confirmation of the dog, I think the DON KING OF RING'S is closest to the AKC breed standard).
I definitely prefer cropped ears, since it gives dogs a regal, noble, alert, and clean cut look. As mentioned in the forum, it "opens a can of worms", with what people prefer and I will respect that, but cropped(Compared to floppy/stand up bat ears on cropped breeds) is definitely more aesthetic.
Ex: I have seen pics of a Boxer with ears uncropped and tail undocked and it looks more like a malnourished Bullmastiff. But that's just me, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Blimey I have no interest in dogs usually and only here have I learned about the ear cutting, you learn something new everyday.

So the general consensus is to have natural ears so we will stick to that however the last two photos by skysthelimit are really good.

Does anyone else like the following two photos here? Would you prefer to see one of these instead? Let me know your thoughts folks! Photo six is the running favourite at the moment and it is similar to the second photo above......

thanks

I love these last two photos. The first one -- the one Robert posted and which he says has the "Boston markings" -- is actually my favorite of all the photos. (And I want to reiterate again my aesthetic preference for the cut ears. I wouldn't have my own dogs' ears cuts. But I like the look a lot and might prefer it on a model!)

I think they look evil with ears like that, they're almost like horns. Like this -> Evil or Very Mad Laughing
I like the Boston one too, I voted for five but would be happy with this tan colour.

Yes but uncropped ears are natural. I hate when I see Boxers, Rottweilers, Spaniels etc with docked tails. Unless they are a working dog and their tails are in danger of being trapped, caught or damaged, then leave their dam tails alone !

Same with ears. Ok, some people might like that look but it's not natural, the dog was not born that way.

Personally the showing world means nothing to me. Whoever decides what the breed standard or look should be, is just darn right stupid ! So many breeds are messed up now because everyone thinks they need to look like show dogs.

Sorry for the rant but it just really annoys me Evil or Very Mad

Rio, what do you think of Sporting breeds not having their dew claws removed? They are removed so when they are grown and working in harsh field conditions, they won't get ripped off by thicket/brush they are working/retrieving/flushing in. I would rather see them humanely surgically taken off by a vet when days old than torn off in the field.

Removing dewclaws is not illegal over here, in work we have removed loads of dewclaws that are really loose or pose a problem in the future.

What I have the problem with is, the cropping of this dog's ears are done for they way we want them to look, not for health reasons. What sort of job will that dog have that will endanger it's ears getting caught or ripped ? It's job has all but been wiped out, they aren't used like they were years ago.

Also, Collecta's tag line is " A Natural world in miniature "

But anyway, back to the model :)

I am NOT trying to make you hate cropped ears. I respect that you like cropped ears, all I am saying is that it's not natural and I'd prefer to see them with natural ears.

Maybe it's because I work in a vet practice and that plays a big part on my decision but it is what it is.

Anyway, I am glad that Collecta are making a Staff model, even if it is his American cousin Laughing
