I,m agree! And I think Papos,s jaguars the best too! Wink In general Papo,s wild cats are the best (dinamic, plastic models), but Schleich has the best horses, dogs, giraffas, elephants and many others... Wink

I also think, like a lot here that Papo's wild cats are the best. But, about the jaguar, some here convinced me that the Scleich one is more realistic... It's true ! The Papo I loved have got a too long tail and is not bulky enough...Shocked But it is so alive cat .

I don't like too much the Schleich elephants, IMHO they are too chubby, with chubby tails. Among the modern manufacturers, I prefer the Papos or the Bullylands Wink

I have the Schleich Jaguar and I think that in general is good. But I think the sculpting is correct in proportions but poor in details, without muscles look at the legs, mainly back legs! I know that jags are massive but it is some fat... the Papos seems to have a long tail like a leopard and shouldn't have but the body sculpting looks nice... but I need to have one in my hands...
About Schleich Asian elephants I think they are outdated and it's some strange the brown colouring in the African... or maybe I'm wrong!

...By the way - I,m agree in general that Papo,s jaguar more like leopard from zoological morphology... May be it, s mistake? Wink

With a good painting it could be a very fine clouded leopard Wink

Christophe, painting ideas are nice for painters but in this jaguar we had to rebuilt it, again the tail... and scale!
The painting of the Papo jaguar is of a jaguar, the sculpting looks really very near of a leopard, longer legs, smaller head but I only know it from catalogue and web!

There's still the Safari Jaguar, in catalogue looks very massive and with a similar shape to Schleich one. The pose is slightly different, is more dynamic because it's a walking pose. But, like Papo one I never had it in my hands. Maybe Christophe could help us in this question with its fabulous pics

It's true Sergey and I must say I'm not a fan of Schleich wild cats but I changed my mind for the jaguar because of zoological morphology considerations Wink
It's more a jaguar, even chubby, than the Papo, even not chubby and so alive...

Thanks Christophe and Ken!!!
This pics are very helpful! For me the general shape of a figurine is the most important point. I have no doubt that Papo has not a jaguar sculpting but I don't know why it is very beautifull! I'm confused but first is the shape. When I look at a pig with a zebra painting what I see is a pig and not a zebra!
And Ken... what about your oppinion???

Maybe like Sergey is saying we have a nice toy of a Jaguar and a very graceful leopard!!!

A very graceful leopard with a bad jaguar painting.

Again, since the Papo jaguar is smaller than the leopard it could do a fantastic repainted clouded leopard Cool

Well! I have an idea for a clouded leopard.
The 100 users from this forum change the age for about 8 or ten years old and as most of us want a clouded, maybe Schleich will pay atention because children is its market!

I was about to start a new topic complaining a little about the Papo Jaguar. However, I decided to wait and start by searching past STS threads in case my complaint had been raised and discussed already. And as it turns it out, it has. (It's been discussed several places in fact, but primarily here on this thread.) So instead of creating a new thread, I'll just tack my complaints onto this one, so that most of the discussion about this issue is contained in one place. Unfortunately for me, that means that most everything I'm about to say has already been said earlier in this thread. Even the photos I prepared are repetitive. Oh well...(indulge me).

The complaint is basically that the Papo Jaguar -- despite how absolutely beautiful a figure it is -- does not seem to possess the physical traits characteristic of a jaguar. I'm thinking, in particular, about its physical proportions: compared with a leopard, the jaguar has a larger head relative to its body, a shorter tail, and is more stocky and compact. The Papo Jaguar (again, while a lovely sculpt) is basically, to my eyes, a Leopard painted to look like a Jaguar.

A picture of the Papo Jaguar, with pictures of Leopards after:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

leopards:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

now some JAGUARS.

first jaguar

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

another jaguar
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

and finally, notice how much better Schleich and Safari's Jaguars capture the correct proportions.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I think the Papo Leopard (the stalking sculpt not pictured here) is possibly the best Leopard on the market. But if they re-painted their Jaguar as a Leopard, and did it right, they'd have an even better Leopard figure and by far the best I've seen. That would also open up a space in their catalog for a new Jaguar and it would be wonderful to see what they would come up with. Papo, are you listening?.... (sigh. I didn't think so.)
