PostSubject: Harriet's schleich additions    Tue Sep 21, 2010 1:11 pm

This morning I received the Schleich Tapir and another model, which I'll post in the Papo section.

I really like it and I'm pleased I bought it, has a very cute face, I hope they bring out a couple of calves to go with it.

"taper" means to decrease or peter out, get thinner or come to an end. It sounds like Tapir Wink

Hello, congrats on the Tapir. That second one, although quite big is really nice. The paint finish is lovely and the sculpting. What brand is it? Do they then make more animals in that series? Would be great to see a website.

I have two slightly different versions of the Tapir. One has white paint around the eyes like your one and one doesnt. I prefer that one that doesnt, it looks just that little bit realistic. The difference depends on whether it is the Portugal or China Model and I think it is the Chinese model which is better. The same for the Yak. The German Yak is made from a glossier plastic whereas the China Yak Model is of a much better matt paint finish. Check out your models and you will see..

The big tapir is a dokidoki tapir made by Phat company.

I already made a review here Very Happy : http://sts-forum.forumieren.de/sonstige-neuere-kunststoff-tierfiguren-other-new-plastic-or-rubber-animal-figures-f13/the-phat-company-malayan-tapir-all-round-walk-around-review-t637.htm

My Schleich tapir is the "made in China" one and he has the white paint around the eyes and bluring white ears confused

Then my mistake it is the German/Porutgal one that doesnt have the white eyes. I am at work so was not able to check. I have 3 Schleich Tapirs two of them dont have the white eyes and ones does. They are from different countries.

Is the PHAT company Tapir heavy? or hollow? Lightweight or dense? I hope they make more animals in the series. I see they make a Llama, Capybara and Shoebill.

I haven't seen aTapir in a store over here yet. Nice up close photo. I love the eyes on the animal and the little bit of pink around the lips. I think the Schleich artists did a great job on it! Thanks for sharing. :) ~Sue

2010 was the tapir's year! No doubt about it!!! They look that are seeling well!!! We are always thinking about which win the race but who lost it was CollectA!!!
In Portugal the tapirs are sold as anteaters (tamandua) all children wants an anteater and so they get a tapir!!!
About the painting remember that the best fox and lynx of all brands are made in Portugal (the old Schleich fox and the new schleich lynx).
Something are telling me that the portuguese painters are the best. I'm not being partial, all of you know that I am not related to this country!!!

It's now or never!
Does anyone could explain me why everybody says that schleich gazelle is Thomson and Schleich website is saying Cuvieri???
That question is important for me and I guess for Kiryuha too!

Well, there are quit some gazelle-species that could look like the Schleich gazelle, but is is obvious that they are Thompsons... Laughing
But i think, because Schleich has problems to make a male model with nice and thin horns, they said, that these 2 models are the Cuvier gazelle, although they do not match the profile of that species... Shocked
So in the eyes of most collectors, they are still Thompsons, and we wait eagerly for the male model, otherwise we use another brand to match with the two Schleich! Very Happy

By the way, before the question comes again... Laughing
The male gazelle is made by the Nayab company in China, but brought out for several brnads, like Animal Classics-The Nature Zone here in Holland, or Kim Play, and many others...

Thanks Willy for the pics and explanation! Makes sense and I agree that is more similar to a Thomson but official info was other. We have too Schleich Emperor Penguins that Schleich is calling king penguins (chiks) and its parent is a King penguin... etc.! So this things are confusing for a new collector!

The name that Schleich gave to this gazelles, came much later as the model was brought out...
So there is some room for thinking in the collector-scene... Rolling Eyes

The first Schleich penguins were called king-penguins, as they had the colours of the emperor.
Now they did better i think with the newest models.
The two species do look very similar, although the king is smaller then the emperor, and the king has orange, and the emperor yellow on his head, but i think they know, but never thought really well with naming them... Shocked

Congrats, Harriet! They are wonderful! I think I love ALL of the horses. I have the Falabellas coming, but I see I'm going to have to get the Dartmoors and the Knabstrupper as well. And maybe those Longhorns.

I think you guys have got me hooked....! :)
