I received a very welcome small package yesterday, containing a very handsome male chimp. cheers And here he is, reunited with his wife and kids, who have been waiting for him for a few days. Very Happy

A happy family portrait:

Overall, I'm very pleased with them. They are really nice sculpts, though some of the paint apps are a little sloppy in places.... my female looks like she has a black eye! (I think it actually looks worse IRL than in my photos.) Does anyone else have these figures? I'd be interested to know if they are all painted the same (I've only seen catalogue photos, which obviously look perfect!).

Once again, they are of a larger scale than my beloved Scheichs. Here are some comparison shots....

The scale fits better with the Safari chimps, though I think the Bullyland looks more realistic:

And finally, here's the whole troop together:

Thanks Susanne! :) How is your female painted? Does she also have the "black eye"? And how do you display her, sitting on the ground, or hanging from something?

Congratulation Very Happy

I don't have those chimps but I can see on your pics they are better than expected.

I guess the SAFARI Ltd sculpting is awesome as usual but I thought the painting was better. Are they all like that ? Can someone help ?

If you are hunting chimp figures, the COLLECTA family is an excellent target Suspect

Thanks Christophe! I have looked at those CollectA chimps online a few times, also the Papo ones, and have been very tempted. Sometimes I like the look of them, other times I'm not so sure. I think what puts me off slightly is the way they are painted - I prefer it when they are molded from flesh-coloured plastic, and have the black fur painted on.... when it's the other way round, and the faces are painted onto black plastic, they look kind of cheap to me. They do look very nice in your pictures though, I'm sure I will pick them up eventually.... the more the merrier!! Very Happy

As for the Safari chimps, yes, I was somewhat disappointed with the quality of the paint apps... in the catalogue photo they look amazing, very realistic, but as you can see, the actual figure does not live up to this. I dont know if they're all like this, but I have seen other people complain that Safari products aren't as finely painted IRL as they are in the catalogue.

Great group of chimps, now you need some bonobos. monkey Wink
I think you will enjoy the CollectA chimps, they fit nicely with your Schleich. I don't like the Papo because of shiny painting and rubbery plastic, but sometimes Papo updates their paintings and also makes the same figures in harder plastic. But, as a apes collector, you'll learn living with them all and it is very funny to see how different brands work the same animals! Very Happy

Thank you all!! cheers Very Happy monkey

I've had a few people now recommending I should get the CollectA chimps, so I guess I'd better find myself a set! I have been looking already, but can't find anywhere in the UK that stocks them (well, one seller has one of the four), and overseas shipping on ebay seems to be quite expensive for these, so I'll keep searching.

No, I also cannot be sure if all of your chimps are common chimpanzees. The Safari, with her dark face, remembers a lot a bonobo, even the side parts of the cheeks look very furry. Anyway, the baby looks a common chimp once in your photo the skin looks lighter than his mother. So, if I'm seeing correctly, they are common chimps and mom is only a mature lady! monkey :)
