PostSubject: TQ's scaly skinned menagerie   Sun Oct 21, 2012 7:38 am

I have begun to grow a new interest- lizards and their cold-blooded kin. This thread will be a archive of my growing collection.

The AAA Komodo dragon. I like to pretend that it's actually a Megalania Wink I love the sculpt of this guy, but the paintjob could be improved.

AAA Monitor Lizard. This guy was cast from a dead specimen. Which is probably why it looks so realistic, after all, there is no better artist than God Himself (or nature, if you prefer Razz)

Also, sorry about my dusty PC monitor :X

Awww, why not? I think lizards and amphibians don't get enough love from manufacturers, the pesky mammals hog all the glory Wink
And thank you cheers

The explanation is easy. I can't collect everything as surely most of us and we need to make choices. Lizards, prehistoric included, insects, farm animals, horses in general, fishes, whales and related are among the figures I am not actually collecting. Anyway I love them all as I love those I collect. Mainly mammals and birds. And believe, they are enough to take a lot of room and money but also a lot of joy. Who knows someday I get some lizards from a set with little figures like Play Visions or so. Very Happy

Incredible figurines, to be sure. I assume that the second is the Green Tree Monitor (Varanus prasinus), a really lovely lizard in real life (I used to manage and work in a small herptile store in San Francisco). The Black Tree Monitor (Varanus beccarii) is even more stunning, and maybe a foot larger. I'm not aware of an AAA version of it, but I'd love to discover that I'm wrong about this...!!
I posted the green guy on another forum, but another member identified it as Varanus jobiensis...

But since you mentioned that you've worked with real reptiles, I think you're probably right.

A new lizard guys Very Happy I obtained this one from eBay, the listing stated that it was an AAA figure, although it is not identified as such on the figure itself.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Here it is, as you can see it is a large figure. My hand is 16cm, just to put this into scale.

With his new friend Cool

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
How embarrassing Embarassed

I think I might repaint him one day, his colours are not very lizard-y at all. Any ideas what kind of monitor this guy could be?

I don't suppose this guy rings any bells? Is it an Australian lizard that you might be familiar with?

The colours are totally off the charts but the shape reminds me of a Sand Monitor :)

Thanks Roger Cool
I'm not quite sure what you meant there when you said "the chance of watching it" though Embarassed

I think I might start a thread asking if anyone knows the species of monitor it could be...if I knew then it would feel a lot more authentic Mad

Newcomer! Cool This strange looking reptile, from an unknown manufacturer.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
You can see how large this guy really is, it even dwarfs the AAA monitor Shocked

Sadly the biggest flaw in this guy is the big seam around the middle.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
...Derp.

I do think I have an idea of its origins though. This company is the same one responsible for creating a certain kind of infamous chinasaur figures. The giveaway is the red eyes.
