oooo! what fun!

Some of the biggest names sculptors in the US are (in no particular order):
Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Kristina Lucas-Francis [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Lynn Fraley [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Sarah Rose [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Sue Sifton Carlton no website, but see Resins by Randy below
Kitty Cantrell [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Morgen Kilbourn [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Adalee Hude [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Kathy Bogucki [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Carol Williams [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and of course Deborah McDermott [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Also check out the two best known resin casters:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] His site is also a good place to find names of other sculptors, since he carries work by a lot of artists.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I was going to suggest starting with the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] but that’s not such a good idea, since it’s such an amazing site you can be in there for days! In addition to lots of lovely photos, this site is great because it usually includes artists’ website info.
Word to wise in searching the Directory: the search on the right (“Search for resins”) brings up one photo per sculpt; the search on the left (“Browse galleries of finished horses”) brings up every model in the directory that meets your search requirements, and all results come up in one page, so if you’re not careful, you could end up wading through 100s of horse. For example, if you search for sculpted by Brigette Eberl on the right, you’ll get basically a list of her sculpts. It’s a lot, but easy enough to review. But if you search for sculpted by Brigette Eberl in the galleries, every single Eberl model in the dbase will come up. When you think how many different sculpts she’s done and how popular they are, chances are the gallery will never stop loading! affraid Plus, the gallery reports results by the name of that individual model, so it’s basically random.
So when searching the gallery, best to limit it somehow if you want to include a search parameter that’s broad. In investigating who I wanted to paint my Superlumina, I wanted to see how different artists’ did chestnut, so I searched for “chestnut” and just about froze my computer. Shocked Suspect Then I searched by breed and size as well as by chestnut, just to make the results manageable. I had to run several searches by various breeds but at least the results didn’t kill me.

Sometimes artists' blogs and Facebook pages are more up to date than websites, so check those. A lot of artists have an email list to announce when new pieces are available. If there’s an artist you really want something from, get on her list and be ready. Sometimes a model is an open edition, where they just keep producing them, but the big star pieces are usually limited by number (“no more than X# will be cast”) or by date (“Orders will be taken through X date”), so if you want one, you better get it while it’s available. Popular pieces go up in price fast as soon as they’re no longer available. Some of the most famous models, you have to pay a king’s ransom, assuming you can even find one.
But if you are intent on finding a retired piece, keep your eyes on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or ebay.

I'm assuming you're going to paint yourself, so in that case it all depends whether you're buying to keep or to show and sell. The big name sculptors are always in demand, but certain models and breeds go in and out of fashion.
While we're posting eye candy, here are this year's NAN* results: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

* - Note for the non-model horse crowd: NAN stands for North American Nationals, but is essentially the world championship of model horse shows. Most shows in the US are NAMHSA (North American Model Horse Showers' Association) affiliated, which means the winning entries qualify for NAN.

I would also advise you Laila L. Mampell's resins (you may find them on Equineresindirectory.com). The Akhal-Teke Ekemen and the trotting Andalusian mare Estepona are really gorgeous:)

I´ve finally decided not to buy anyone for now. The resins I would pay these ammounts for are all sold out, and the available ones I admit are very beautiful, some of them stunning, but don´t tell me anything. So buying one just because I want to buy an artist resin... no thanks, it´s a lot of money!

Instead of that I bought a Breyer Cheveyo xD Not really cheap for a Traditional mold, but in any case lots cheaper than an artist resin! And this mold is in fact one of my favourites.

However, if a certain resin is available for sale again... Cool (Pssst: Superlumina by Maggie Bennett, so if anybody nows about her let m know please!)

Finally I got her! The artist sold few copies a couple of months ago, and I was able to get one! I really love her, she´s even more stunning in person! Breathtaking. (one of the pics is a comparison with GG Valentine by Breyer, a Traditional mold, Superlumina looks a bit bigger because of the prespective of the photo)

Now I should paint her, but first I have to decide the color and, of course, practice a bit with big scales! I was thinking some kind of grey, or maybe liver flaxen chestnut with rabicano and gulastra plume, and some minimal sabino markings :)

Congrats! She's stunning. One of the few Arabian molds I really like.
Do you plan to get Supernova too one day?))

Thank you my friends!

No, I don´t really like Supernova, his facial expression looks a bit ungry for my taste and makes me think he has an invisible rider forcing his mouth. Supernova is very well sculpted but it´s not for me :)

I still don´t know how to paint it, so I accept suggestions! (realistic ones please Roger Very Happy) Pure Arabians don´t carry dilution genes but can show some sabino and Splash markings. And of course grey! Any idea?

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can't wait to see her painted. she'll be lovely in any color.
I can't wait to get mine, but I'm having Maggie paint her, so it's a long wait.

i totally agree. She and Supernova don't have that exaggerated "Arabian-ness" that a lot of artists do.

take another look at Supernova's mouth: he's actually very relaxed in the mouth. he's goofing around and making funny faces. Cece saw him in person at Breyerfest and says it's even more apparent in person that he's playing. I love him but i can't figure out what he's doing: his front legs seem to be doing one thing while his back legs are doing something else. do you know what that pose is?

Now, Trenzado, he's awesome. I ready to hit the "buy" button the moment i saw his picture, but then i saw his mane covering his neck and face, and i don't like that at all. but now Maggie is resculpting him with a new mane! What a Face affraid cheers cyclops *I collect only sheep!*

CONGRATULATIONS, again!!!!!!!!

Laughing After a long search of about 10 seconds, my suggestion goes to a rabicano. I think this goes very well with the sculpting, can be found in Arabians and is not very often found in horse replicas. Very Happy Among several pictures my favorite is that one below. Very Happy

I have seen at his face for a long time, you can belive me. And I don´t see the relaxed face you say. Look at the contracted masseters, the ears looking back and in contact with the neck, the tense chin, the visible "Levator labii superioiis proprius" (don´t know the name in English, maybe something like "nostril upper levator"?), and all the buccinator and zygomatic muscles are contracted as well. I don´t see a relaxed and playing horse here, I see a firgtened/ungry horse. Relaxed horses don´t have all tose muscles contracted, and ears don´t touch the neck. Just the hanging lip doesn´t tell me the horse is relaxed. In fact, the comissures are tense too. Even the eyes look tense for me.

And about the body... Well, that´s other reason why I don´t like it. It seems the horse has just started a gallop after having bucked or something like this, but I don´t know. Maybe mane and tail have an incorrect movement according to the action of the horse and don´t flow correctly, but I don´t like it.

Yeah, I know she´s resculpting Trenzado´s mane and tail, and he´s looking much better now! Superlumina is also getting a new look but the new mane and tail don´t have the great movement the "old" version has, so I bought this one instead of waiting for the new one ^^

Thank you!

I´ll consider Rabicano as an aditional extra for my model, thank you ^^
