It does not live exactly on her garden, but in a tree right in front of her bedroom window. But it wouldn't be a problem: sloths can live almost their entire life in two trees, as long as those can provide food.

what an exciting project!
i pretty much know squat about sloths, but is his neck too long and/or too well-defined? i get a strong feeling of shoulders-neck-head like a primate, whereas the neck does not stand out as a feature when i look at sloths. maybe if he were stretching his head up, but looking forward like that, it just doesn't feel right to me. but as i said, my knowledge of sloths is almost zero...

i have to confess, sloth faces kind of creep me out, like they're Zombie Chihuahuas from Outer Space.
But i will get this figure, since i'm sworn to buy all figures made with STS's help.

Here's a short message from James, which explains the pose with sticking claws into the branch...
"One of the most important areas on the Sloth is the claws, they must look sharp and long as this is a characteristic of
this particular animal. The problem we faced was how to show the details of the claws whilst still passing safety requirements for toys. If the claws are too long and sharp then it will fail as a toy (due to sharp points), so freeing a hand from the tree would mean shortening the claws to restrict sharp points and so enabling the animal to pass safety requirements. Also, another potential problem with the claws protruding too much was the moulding - they could deform when removed from the mould, so making them a little shorter in order to reduce problems when removing the model from the mould would have been another outcome of having 1 hand free. Hence although I agree completely that this would have added to the aesthetic nature of the Sloth and greatly increased his movement, unfortunately this wasn't an option.

By having all 4 limbs on the branches we were able to highlight this
particular and very important feature of the 2 toed sloth. I hope everyone
agrees with our choice???"

Those reasons did not even occur to me, but really do make sense, we don't want little kids poking each other's eyes out now do we? Wink And I can see the problem with models going deformed... that would waste time, effort, and money hoping for good figures to come out and most not coming out so well. I agree with the pose then. Thank you skysthelimit for the info.

That really makes sense. Honestly, probably the very first thing I noticed when I saw the original pictures Roger posted were the absolutely gorgeous, long claws. It would be a shame not to see those clearly.

Thank you for posting that, Robert!

PostSubject: 2nd round of 2013 Mojo Fun Linnaeus's two-toed sloth!   Sun Sep 23, 2012 11:09 pm

Dear friends! Very Happy
Here are more pictures of the sloth development. This time Mojo decided to share with us several pictures showing the subtle changes taking place day by day. :surprised: cheers
I personally find it very generous from the brand, knowing how important is to keep secretively the development of products in commercial areas. Anyway I also find that it has a huge interest to those members that love to follow all the steps a figure need to take before arriving to our collections. Very Happy
Below you can see pictures from 3 different stages and your comments are very welcome and will be taken seriously to contribute to the best quality possible of final figure. bounce
As comparison you can check the pictures of the first round on this topic. study
You can read more about Linnaeus's two-toed sloth on this Wikipedia article. study Very Happy

19 September:
face and snout changes according with STS members comments.

i'm not sure i see the changes; that is, i can see it's changed because his hair is different, but i don't know enough about sloths to understand what was done, but i can see that when it's painted, it will be wonderful. i think that all one color like this, my brain keeps thinking it's a very strange Wookiee.
However I am admiring those beautiful claws!! they really are spectacular and when you look at the "claws" on other sloth models, cheers to Mr. James for the courage to be accurate. they look like claws, not stubby bits of plastic. Looking at this figure, you understand that a sloth can inflict some serious damage if it takes a swipe at a predator.
and cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers Mr. James and Mojo for including STS in this project. I am enjoying watching it develop.
Thank you for sharing. sunny

I don't know enough about sloths either but I can see the nose is different. All I can say is that Mojo Fun is climbing very fast to compete with Schleich for my favorite brands list! I do have to commend Mr. James Conolly for his including and daring to release his projects with us, a truly daring move! And last but not least I can not wait to see their 2013 line! cheers Sad(o)): Very Happy Razz bounce flower

Thanks again for all of your comments! Very Happy
James thinks that maybe the snout is a little long? Who knows we can ehlp?
Remember that this is the species with the longest snout among sloths but what do you think? scratch study
The 3rd group of pictures is the last stage, I understand it is not easy to review and check such little changes, mainly with a creature that we are not used. Any other points you feel can improve the figure feel free to comment! Very Happy

Just to tell I don't even spent my time spreading some Torbens everywhere and making walkarounds, I also watch carefully the pics James sent us.

Indeed the small changes on the last versions are uneasy to detect Laughing

About the snout, and face, I thought a lot about it and I think the snout is not too long. it only seems too long, mainly because the eyes are still a little bit too small. I mean the snout is fine with the body and head proportions but not with the eyes... I guess it is better to change "only" the eyes Laughing

Christophe, I'm very happy that you also find time to watch the pictures Mojo is sending. Now is the right time to make the comments and not after the figure being finished, considering that the brand is giving us the chance of commenting and contributing to the best possible replica. cheers
I knew you was watching it, and as usual I find your comments very interesting. I'm only not sure if it is the size of the eys or if it is the orbital area and eyebrows that need more definition what will give the impression that eyes are larger and snout shorter, could it be? scratch Very Happy

Ah! I had missed this second edition!
Roger, I greatly appreciate the process that sends us Mojo. Seeing small changes and as a big brand work is very interesting. Mojo is definitely the brand that listens more to collectors Sad(o)):
Concerning the sloth, I still think the upper torso and head are weirdly upright. Since my proposal of and warping the back that the head were more "fall" was dismissed I propose that the whole body to swing to one side or the other, leaving one of the arms fully extended. I have not found pictures of Choloepus didactylus with back muscles tense, and that is what is understood in the figure presents to us Mojo. Even I do not know if this is anatomically possible for these animals. study
I'm also agreed with eyes size comments of Christophe. The rest is perfect cheers

Dear friends,
It is nice to know that someone, although working hardly on 2013 Mojo figures, still find some time to send pictures to share with us. It reflects a huge respect for us collectors and I needed to say it. cheers
Here is the 2-toed Linne's sloth already painted and waiting for your comments! bounce bounce
They will be considered as usual and this figure will figure to posterity as a symbol of the good relationships between a brand and collectors! Very Happy

Great work with painting, anyway I'm not agreed with the face. I prefer a darkest face, and although it can be of different colors, the nose itself should be much darker for sure

Yes, I know what do You mean Joan! I think most of them have darker nose, especially on adult ones such bright colored nose must be rare scratch
But the painting on Mojo sloth remind me about this one: http://www.arkive.org/southern-two-toed-sloth/choloepus-didactylus/image-G94383.html Very Happy

cheers The sloth looks really good. With a dark nose darker fur it would almost be perfect (like the funny fellow below). sunny

Thanks for your construtive comments! Very Happy
I agree with most of you. The figure looks great although the lighter face and head makes it looks more like a Hoffmann's two-toed sloth than with a Linne's two-toed sloth. This species is more uniformly colored on face and fur than Hoffmann's. Very Happy
Anyway, the previous picture shows a Linne's with lighter head! Laughing
Nevertheless, my choice will be always the uniform coloring once it represents clearly that this is not a Hoffmann's. Very Happy
