Advice about horses Empty
PostSubject: Advice about horses   Advice about horses EmptyWed Nov 28, 2012 4:47 pm

Hi everyone!

This is my first post in this forum, so please be gentle with me if I have placed the thread incorrectly.

I am looking for a figure that is about 1:13 scale/about 15 cm high at the withers and hard plastic that can be customized. Schleich has a range of possible choices, but they are all a bit too small (too much so in order to fit, unfortunately).

Maybe there is someone around who can help me (manufacturer/type/model).

Thanks a lot in advance!

First: welcome and willkommen from Dresden sunny sunny sunny

I am not a horse expert but bigger hard plastic horses sounds like Breyer scratch

Second : Wellcome from Denmark cheers

If you need horses that a slightly bigger than Schleich, some of the CollectA horses may suit your purpose . If you scroll down you see some comparisons here : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I agree, Breyer comes in several sizes, we have some expert Breyer collectors in the forum. They can tell you a lot more study

Third, welcome from Portugal! Wink
1:13 is not a scale regularly used in animal replicas. I think the best option is to follow what Susanne and Andreas are suggesting. Breyer and CollectA have horses in 1:12 scale. It is not hard to find some that are a little small for the scale that can make them fit in 1:13 scale.
None of them is similar in material to Schleich figures but they may be good for you. Very Happy
All Schleich, smaller CollectA, Papo, etc. are around 1:18 1:20 scale, so very far from the size you need. study

Vielen Dank, tusen takk and muito obrigado for the warm welcome! It is great to finally find a forum where people are willing to share their knowledge instead of guarding it jealously. Sad(o)):

Breyer seems to be exactly what I was looking for. But (people are greedy, me too) it poses yet another question: maybe you know if Breyer is available in Germany in retail toy stores? Or would you advice to resort to ebay?

Thanks a lot in advance, I will post pictures once the customizing is in progress.

Fourth, welcome from Holland Very Happy Wink

Well, I think in Germany You have very nice online store Modellpferdeversand (MPV), they do have a lot of Breyers. If You would like scale about 1:12 then You search Breyer Classic, like these here Very Happy

MPV has also CollectA Arabian stallion in 1:12, it's different plastic than Breyers I think scratch

Fifth, welcome from Southern California!

If you are planning to customize more than just painting it, that is, if you want to change the pose, you should keep in mind that Breyer plastic is nothing at all like Schleich/Collecta/Mojo plastic. Where you can bend the leg on Schleich etc, you can't on a Breyer. Breyer plastic is inflexible and will break, not bend. The only way to get Breyer plastic to bend is to melt it, either by heat or chemicals. Which from past experience i can assure you does not give very good results.
Plus, you have to use apoxy if you want anything to stick to it. So far as i know, collectors still haven't found a glue that will stick to it.

if you just want to paint it, you're fine, but i wanted to make sure you know that remaking a Breyer is a lot different from the other brands. if you do want to change the pose, try to get advice from someone experienced in remaking Breyers to give you some tips.

i look forward to seeing your project photos!

Hi everyone!

I just ordered the horsey. I'll post WIP photos as soon as it arrives and I start working on it.

As a peek goodie: I'll try to transform it into a saddled unicorn... as the toyline it is supposed to fit it with never released something like that.

I'll be looking forward to hearing comments
