Yes Sad I've got the message too. I was afraid for, but there was not only a problem with the ears and horns, but Shapeways thinks also the legs are a problem. I though the thickness must be above 0,3 mm, but for things like legs they use 0,8 mm, so the only model that meets the requirements is the 1:12 Dikdik Sad I think it's not an option for rescale only the legs and ears, because the proportions will be very strange Sad Sorry for you two who tried to buy.

I want the specie, not the scale sunny sunny

Thanks for your next try. Hopefully this time Shapeways don't reject the model. :) Did Shapeways everything allright with repay of the 1:22 Dik-Dik costs, or was the money not yet paid when he was rejected?

Yes, it's pity, because that's to small for sure. But if you have some bigger animals missing in your zoo, you can request them. I can put them on my schedule if I like them enough. Razz

Damned, now he's still rejected. Comming up, I'll get a mail of Shapeways with the problem this time. I think this time the problem is solvable in this scale. Tonight I'll repare. Anoying.. With the giraffes I'd less problems.

Yes, but this is fortunately a very small problem with the tips of the horns. This is easy to fix, so the 1:12 Dik-Dik will be there :)

The repared version of the 1:12 Dik-Dik is online :) You can find him here.

The horns are a little bit less pointed and I've made the ears from inside a little bit thicker for certainty.

Very interesting to see the giraffes printed, I would be interested to see closeups (when they are painted) to see how the details turned out.

Good to hear he arrives well and you're happy Very Happy Can you show some photos?

Shapways has also white materials, but that's not possible with small models like this Dik-Dik. Most people use a very thin primer spray for give the model a visible colour and this will show the details better. In the future Shapeways will have also some high detail full color printers, but that'll take a few years I think.

Nice, you can see I had to make the horns stump for conform to the Shapeways specs. With a small scalpel you can make the horns pointed carfully if you wish. Wink

Yes, all the plastic materials of Shapeways are paintable :) On the forum of Shapeways are some tutorials. The models must be good cleaned before and get a thin layer of primer spray before painting.

I know some people here want also try this kind of software. Now I've found there is a free version of the program I use. I use ZBrush and the free version is Sculptris. Of course this program has fewer options, but I think this is a good way for trying this way of sculpting. I thought, let me just mention for lovers. :)

Hi all, it's a long time since I've posted something, so I want to let you hear I'd not quit. Sadly I had nearly no time for creating new models Sad I make very long days with my internship, so time for modeling is rare. There are still a lot of animals in the queue for finishing, so maybe I'll show soon some sneakpeeks. Hopefully I can release soon some new models on my site. :)

Stijn,
He looks great so far! In fact besides the circled blemishes the only thing it see that I would change is the legs, they should be much more bulky or sturdy for such a strong and massive bull, besides that I don't see too much more to do but I know nothing about 3-D printing so I defer to you as the expert.

Stijn,
He looks great so far!  In fact besides the circled blemishes the only thing it see that I would change is the legs, they should be much more bulky or sturdy for such a strong and massive bull, besides that I don't see too much more to do but I know nothing about 3-D printing so I defer to you as the expert.
Yeah, you're right. I've to make him far more muscular. And the blemishes in the circles are my working points Razz The biggest point is the target on this side of the model and the small one is the mirrored point, so first te model is completly symmetric, till I give him a pose.

I want to show you an other sneakpeek yet. I'm not only working on African animals, so here you can see my first unfinished Indian animal (mother and calf). Hope you'll like them:

That is interesting, I thought they were imperfections and the circle was highlighting the area to correct them.

The Indian mother and calf look fantastic as well, I can't wait to see them finished!

These look really good. I'm always interested to see models done on the computer like these. It seems very interesting.

This is a very interesting project but I would have a request... Indian rhinos are common animals in the Toy world and even if your sculptures are very fine, it is still one more Indian rhino. The real rare rhinos are the Sumatran and Javan rhinos. Joan already made a Sumatran rhino model for us. Wouldn't it be fun for you (and us...) to make a Javan rhino and calf ? drunken
